OPEN DOOR COUNCILLOR SESSIONS

Every fortnight at the Rosny Library there will now be an open door councillor session. These sessions are open to all past, current and prospective councillors along with any community member that would like to come along and have a chat with them.

Sessions have no agenda and not not seek to lobby or advocate on politically or community-sensitive matters, rather be a neutral place where anyone can talk to anyone about anything. For current councillors and prospective councillors these sessions are perfect to show the community your openness and honesty while also promoting trust between themselves and residents.

So, it's been brought to my attention that a few residents have been trying to get in contact with our Mayor Brendan Blomeley. The CEO Ian Nelson has informed several members of our community that our Mayor is currently on a leave of absence.
So, this has raised something for me that previously wasn't obvious but now is.
Our Mayor working under the Local Government Act 1993 and over his 3+ years in the role has not once that I'm aware delegated his role to Deputy Mayor Allison Ritchie. This is a Mayor that has taken countless trips interstate and has likely been on leave now for 3 weeks.
This is concerning of a number of levels including the CEO's awareness of this, recent national events and current season and potential for bushfires etc. to name a few.
I have forwarded this information to a few media outlets to do some further digging, we'll hopefully at least find out where our Mayor is? perhaps holidaying in Greece?, anybody on here know?

So, at tonight's council meeting I was very generously given the opportunity by Mayor Brendan Blomeley to make a deputation. I'm very sure I won't be given that opportunity again as my deputation was closed down very early on the basis it was defaming to the council. My full deputation is below, and I believe it is written in a manner that doesn't include direct defamation to the council or anyone individual involved. In my opinion it is constructive criticism. Essentially, I was encouraging council to look into and/or review its procedures around compliance and enforcement. BJ Walker

Before I start this deputation, I inform that it is not being read for myself alone, but for the many residents I feel and know have been affected and are unable to stand up for themselves so many varying reasons.
The Clarence City Council either has no internal procedures when dealing with general compliance or they do not include general fairness, communication, evidence, resolution.
Rather this council seeks to continue its long standing workplace culture of bullying its residents into submission by hiding behind its letters, officers, lawyers and treats of legal proceedings to alienate its victims from thinking they have any general human rights.

This needs to Change.

In 2017 this council investigated a potential compliance issue at my property in Howrah. Today, 8years later, this council are still pursuing this compliance issue and still decline to discuss this issue with me. Thats right, 8 years and this council have yet to have a civilised meeting or even a conversation about the matter. Actually, up until last week, this council hadn't even felt it necessary to request myself to do anything specific to rectify the issue in their opinion. Meanwhile, I live waiting for the next council officer to look over my fence or get drones to fly over capturing mine and my family's every move.

This needs to Change.

Those councillors here that advocate or are part of mental health or su***de prevention groups, this is the sort of s**t that makes people like myself take their lives.
