The Kids' Cancer Project We fund childhood cancer research across Australia, supporting scientists to discover better treatments and improve outcomes for young people with cancer.

We’re excited to announce a $2.70 million investment over three years through the Col Reynolds Fellowship Program.

The fellowships will support seven talented Australian researchers:

💙 Two Nursing & Allied Health Research Fellowships

📚 That's a wrap on Write a Book in a Day 2026, and together, we raised over $1.26 million for childhood cancer research!

That's enough to funds 50 pilot studies to test the safety of new cancer drugs, bringing researchers closer to human clinical trials.

Across the country, creative minds came together to write and illustrate a book in just 12 hours, turning their creativity into vital funds for research.

To every student, coordinator, teacher, writing group, author and reader who took part - thank you! Your creativity and generosity have turned stories into vital funds for research.💛

What could kinder, more personalised cancer treatment look like for children?

For Dr Katherine Pillman, it starts with understanding why childhood cancers behave differently from child to child.

Her research into neuroblastoma is using gene sequencing and computer modelling to uncover what makes each tumour unique. Her work is helping doctors better understand each child’s cancer and tailor treatment accordingly, avoiding unnecessary intensive therapies and reducing lifelong side effects.

“The current treatment regime is harsh and only moderately effective, with terrible lifelong side effects", she says.

As a Col Reynolds Fellow, Dr Pillman has received more than $610,000 in funding over three years, made possible by supporters like you.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re highlighting researchers like Dr Pillman who are working to create better, kinder outcomes for children with cancer.
