The Blank Cheque Movement exists to honour the promise made by Defence personnel and First Responders when they commit to serving our community and our nation by strengthening connections and creating meaningful, lasting support.

We’ll be hosting our monthly Saturday catchup in Yeppoon on the 5th September to support the fundraiser! We’ve teamed up with Young Veterans Central Queensland to run a BBQ from 10am to 2pm at the front of Fitstop Yeppoon. Food & cold drinks available.

We know firsthand what it’s like having to deal with DVA. You have to constantly call, email and chase up information, often waiting months just to hear anything… This is what we hear all too often from other Veterans as well.

Since 2022, the government has appointed more than 600 new DVA employees to help “eliminate the backlog” and “ensure it doesn’t re-emerge”. So how is it that so many Vets are still waiting more than 6 months for their claims to be assessed? And why do they still have to jump through so many hoops to receive medical help for injuries received during their time serving our nation?

We want more Veterans to speak up about their experiences and the way they’ve been treated by DVA, as well as the restrictions the $5k cap will place on them.

Matt Keogh was appointed to represent Veterans, and he’s done anything but. He needs to go. Now. Anyone in this role should be a Veteran themself - it’s called lived experience.

How many more Veterans must die post-service before DVA starts taking accountability for the blood on its hands?

We want to hear from current & former ADF Personnel - Army, Navy and Air Force - and current & former serving Police Officers.

Would a pathway into the Queensland Police Service be more attractive if eligible ADF members were paid a first-year constable wage while training at the academy, then moved to a second-year constable wage after graduation?

For Defence personnel, we want to know if this would make you more likely to consider QPS as your next career?

For Police Officers, we want to know if you believe this would be a worthwhile recruitment initiative?

The Blank Cheque Movement is working to create real pathways and meaningful opportunities after service - but we need data to help make the case.

A really positive discussion today with Shane Prior, Queensland Police Union General President, and State Member Rockhampton, Donna Kirkland MP, about how we can work together to better support our Police.

We talked openly about retention, police welfare, connection and some of the challenges facing those who serve our communities.

There are some exciting conversations happening behind the scenes and we’re looking forward to seeing where they lead. There’s plenty of good work ahead and we’re grateful to have people willing to come together, listen and look for practical ways to support each other.
