In the USA, Global Development Group is an Organization Exempt from Income Tax with 501 (c) (3) status carrying out humanitarian projects with approved partners and providing aid to relieve poverty. We were thrilled to receive some wonderful news last week from Jonathan, Project Manager for J893N Pygmy Child Care in the DRC, on the birth of his son, Jayden. In a fun coincidence, baby Jayden shares his birthday with our own Jayden, GDG’s Lead Administration Officer. Congratulations to Jonathan and Nicole!

It was a pleasure to attend the New Life Trust Gala Dinner on the weekend. GDG have partner with New Life Trust for 15 years to support at risk and abandoned children in Myanmar.

Thank you to Jae Yang from Charitas Law for presenting to the GDG team yesterday and taking the time to answer our questions about the NGO and charity sector, governance and best-practice approaches to charity compliance. It was a highly informative and valuable day.

Officials from the Global Development Group (GDG) recently visited Child Action Lanka’s Kandy Development Centre and Gampola Special Needs Centre, spending time with the children and learning more about the transformative work taking place at both centres.

The visit was also an opportunity to share the progress made, the impact of our programmes and our for the future.

Child Action Lanka is deeply grateful for our longstanding partnership with GDG and for the remarkable generosity, trust and unwavering they have extended to our mission over the years. GDG has played an invaluable role in helping us create opportunities, strengthen communities and transform the lives of children and across Sri Lanka.

We are truly thankful for a partnership that continues to make a meaningful difference.

Child Action Lanka (CAL) is a remarkable organisation in Sri Lanka. True to its name, its primary emphasis is on children. But CAL understands that children best thrive in families and communities.

So here are there 4 priorities:
1. Child & youth education
2. Child health & nutrition
3. Child Protection
4. Community sustainability

GDG is greatly encouraged to see CAL not only growing in reach and locations, but developing internal practices and systems (child protection & financial) that ensure it will be a highly effective organisation in the longer term.

Reach Kids Lanka in Sri Lanka focuses on education, vocational and personal development support for young people between 10 and 18.

The project prioritises English education and IT training, critical skills in developing Sri Lanka. But its real brilliance lies in its partnership strategy. It partners with multiple community groups, schools, children’s homes and other agencies to identify the children needing the support. And then connects them with services providers like private and community schools, the American College, and English tutors and teachers.

It’s a generous and outward looking Sri Lankan partner team, Kidznet, making the real difference. It was such a pleasure for GDG staff, David Robertson (Board Member) and Kelley Chisholm (Partnerships Specialist), to spend with time with the project leaders, Rebecca, Kas and Timothy.

Child Action Lanka (CAL), our ICP for J696N, is this year celebrating 20 years of making a difference in Sri Lanka.

What started as a small, locally led community initiative to support children and families in Colombo, has expanded into a large, diverse and national entity that has impacted more than 17,000 children.

From little things, big things grow, and GDG was on hand to join the celebrations at an event filling the Colombo Tower Hall with more then 500 people.

Congratulations Child Action Lanka, and in particular its Founding Director and our friend, Debbie Edirisinghe.
