Willo Where There's A Will

Willo Where There's A Will Inspiring and influencing inclusion through connection We are also known as Willo and we are a Charity established in Australia with a clear purpose.

To inspire and influence inclusion for people who live with intellectual challenges …. through connection. People with intellectual challenges constitute a group at very high risk of exclusion at a community level. They are often denied opportunities to fully participate in the activities of their communities because they are seen as not able: they are seen as disabled. Willo inspires artists and

community members to paint cricket bats that have been refurbished by people living with intellectual challenges. These communities are brought together through cricket and art, realised through cricket bat art exhibitions. The exhibitions create an opportunity to connect which has the potential to change individual behaviours and perceptions of inclusion at all levels in the community.
100% of funds raised from the exhibitions create community owned, community driven and community managed services for “all abilities” in the community. A place for people to feel they truly belong and a place they feel they can connect, learn and be supported by and with their community. Willo has lived just this experience for 24 years and we understand that belongingness; our connection to our friends and our community, is a fundamental human emotional need. Willo believes we can inspire and influence inclusive behaviour towards those with intellectual challenges, through connection, one person at a time. If we can change the behaviour of individuals then we can change the behaviour of communities.

There are people you meet in life whose titles never quite capture who they really are. Spending time again with General Hurley reminded me of that.

After years of working together through Where There’s a Will, and sharing some truly unforgettable moments, what stays with me most is not the role he held as Governors General of Australia — but the way he shows up. Thoughtful. Present. Deeply human.

Yesterday we sat together again, talking about life, about Will, and about the work we are now both doing — nothing has changed, the same genuine interest.

There’s something reassuring about that… when people remain exactly who they are, regardless of the titles they’ve carried.

Grateful for the friendship, the support, and the moments we’ve shared along the way.

It’s a privilege to speak on Australia Day through the lens of my son Will — and for so many who are still left on the edges of everyday life.

Will doesn’t have the words to tell his own story, so I carry it for him. And for every family who loves someone the world calls “different” or “disabled,” who spend their days advocating for the basics that many don’t have to think about — belonging, dignity, opportunity, a seat at the table.

I hold this day with care, knowing it means different things to different people, but Australia Day for me is about the kind of country we choose to be. Whether we notice the people who are isolated. Whether we make room. Whether we listen more than we talk. Whether we build communities that are kinder, more connected and more united — not in theory, but in real, ordinary life.

I’ll stand up there thinking of Will, my daughter Phoebe and my family and community and of every person who deserves to be seen simply as human first. That’s the Australia I want to speak for.

It was lovely to share the stage with at the Welby Garden Centre Gala Dinner.

Full house with all funds raised going to support their brilliant cafe to be launched in 2026 - to train mentor and employ people in hospitality who are neurodivergent 🧡

This Saturday I am proudly speaking at the Welby Garden Centre Dinner and Fundraiser at

It’s a celebration of what happens when community chooses connection and we start weaving everyone into the same fabric of daily life.

This incredible garden centre shows us that inclusion isn’t a special act — it’s the wisdom of recognising that we all thrive when everyone is seen, valued, and welcomed.

I’ll be sharing our story — the journey of Will, the lessons of resilience, kindness, and courage, and the power of responding rather than reacting.

Because when we truly see each other, something shifts — hearts open, communities grow stronger.

We look forward to seeing you there 💚🧡
