💦 Winter Sprinkler Switch-off 💦

A reminder that the annual winter sprinkler switch-off is in place from 1 June to 31 August.

By turning off your sprinklers this winter, we can help save billions of litres of water across WA.

Most reticulation controllers are easy to switch off and will either have:
• a dial that can be turned to the off position; or
• a tap timer that can be turned off at the tap.

Some complexes will have common area reticulation switched off automatically.

Remember, Water Coporation may issue fines for using sprinklers during the ban.

Celebrating Our Resident Artists: People's Choice Award Winner 🎨

Congratulations to resident Steph, whose beautiful artwork Low Tide in Utopia was voted Favourite Artwork in the People's Choice at this year's resident art exhibition.

Steph has formal art training from Claremont Technical College and has always been around art having worked in screen printing, graphic art and antique dealing.

When Steph got accepted into art college her grandmother said she shouldn’t go as she didn’t want her to become a beatnik - Steph’s response years later was that beatniks are born not made.

Thank you to everyone who visited the exhibition and cast a vote, and congratulations again to Steph on this well-deserved recognition.

A short resident pulse survey is coming soon!

Six months ago, residents completed our resident satisfaction survey and told us what’s working well and how we can improve.

We’ve been using this feedback to make improvements and want to check in with a quick survey to understand how we are doing.

If you receive an SMS or email invitation next week we’d love to hear your feedback.

This week, 27 May to 3 June, marks National Reconciliation Week (NRW), a time to reflect on our shared histories and consider how each of us can contribute to reconciliation.

We also acknowledge National Sorry Day (26 May), recognising the Stolen Generations and the ongoing impact of past government policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s NRW theme, All In, calls on all of us to actively contribute to reconciliation through learning, listening, and building respectful relationships.

At Housing Choices Australia, we know that reconciliation is reflected in how we work, the communities we serve and the relationships we continue to build. Our Innovate RAP reflects our commitment to strengthening cultural understanding, respect and truth telling across our organisation and communities.

This National Reconciliation Week, we invite you to consider what going all in might look like for you, whether that is learning more about our shared histories, listening to First Nations voices, attending community events or taking action in your workplace and community.

🎨 Meet Jesse, a passionate resident artist capturing the beauty of the natural world.

Jesse has spent the past 13 years as a wildlife carer and photographer, creating striking images that reflect her deep connection to nature. Her work not only showcases the beauty of local wildlife but also encourages others to protect it.

In 2025, Jesse held her own exhibition Hugged by Nature at the Mandurah Arts Centre. To accompany the exhibition Jesse created a powerful 17-minute visual journey bringing together years of her photography.

Her images offer a unique perspective of the world around us and we are excited to see what she will share at this year’s Resident Art Showcase on 6 May at the Gary Holland Community Centre in Rockingham.

You can watch the video featuring Jesse’s artworks here: https://youtu.be/rCuNROikX7g?si=7PIxwh9OTSyU6-vE

If you are a Housing Choices WA resident that wants to come along or display artwork on the day, please contact Alex on 0437 887 675 or via [email protected]

🎨 Meet Bharti, one of our inspiring resident artists featured in this year’s Resident Art Showcase.

Bharti’s artworks are colourful, layered and deeply personal — inspired by her spirituality, life experiences and reflections. For her, painting is more than creativity, it’s a powerful way to support her mental health and wellbeing.

Since moving to WA in 2017, Bharti has continued to grow her practice through weekly classes at Disability in the Arts, Disadvantage in the Arts, Australia (DADAA). Last year, she reached an exciting milestone by hosting her first solo exhibition and creating larger-scale works.

Her piece Rainbow Buddha is featured in our East Perth office, where its calm and peaceful presence is enjoyed by staff every day.

We’re looking forward to seeing what Bharti brings to this year’s showcase on 6 May at the Gary Holland Community Centre in Rockingham.

If you are a Housing Choices WA resident that wants to come along or display artwork on the day please contact Alex on 0437 887 675 or via [email protected]
