The operation model is based on the successful practices of its sister charity Giving Tree Group, est 2013. Giving Tree Seniors(GTS) is a private charity founded in November 2021 in Melbourne, Australia, its mission is to help isolated and disadvantaged older adults to have a healthier and better supported life. est. 2013. Spiritual values, such as compassion, wisdom, continuous learning and growth, forgiveness are practiced in our activities. We seek alternative low-cost pathways towards better quality of life that our society can't provide elsewhere. To ensure the quality of the programs, members are expected to be comparatively reliable and independent on their own and be able to organize their own matters reasonably well. Giving Tree Seniors members mostly live in eastern suburbs of Melbourne. They can enjoy following programs:
Giving Tree Seniors (GTS) has the following commonly run programs:
1. Badminton or Table Tennis at Aqualink Box Hill (Court Hire cost are shared, Chen supplies rackets, shuttlecocks or large table tennis balls);
2. 10 pin Bowling at AMF Boronia(Members enjoy special price 40% off);
3. Short/medium/long walk meals (walking between half to 2 hours to a reputable restaurant and have meals together, about 10 variations), members pay their own meals, plus one may offer a dish to share. Usually, we take public transport back;
4. Natural Rainforest Walks (Mostly in Dandenong Moutains, free, about 10 variations);
5. Garden, sculpture, galleries, rowing boat on Yarra River and Convent visit (Gardens, Children's Farm, sculpture series, usually free);
6. Coffee gathering (members pay their own eats and drinks);
7. Movie shows(members pay their tickets). Annual or On-demand programs include:
• Winter Piano Concert(including a delicious lunch in Chinese/Italian Cuisine).
• Beautiful Day Tour: River of Life Sculpture-Boat rowing on Yarra River-Vegetarian
lunch in Abbotsford Convent-Coffee in Animal Farm.
• Geelong Day Tour: including Carousel on the beachfront, etc.
• Whale watching cruise, enjoy the magnificient migrating Humpback Whales.
• Beach Volley ball(summer times). Long Trips we have done Sorrento, Bruno’s Art & Sculpture Garden,
Beeches Rainforest(Marysville), Geelong, Lake Entrance and Buchan Caves. Giving Tree Charity Family (GTG and GTS) keeps improving existing programs, training new leaders and creating new programs. “Project Koru” -- An innovative Financial Wisdom Training and Healthy Lifestyles Program to help low income earners to spend and balance wisely while ensures a healthy, sustainable lifestyle, is under development and planned to launch in 2023. We have been self-sufficient without external funding for about 8 years. External funding would be helpful, but not essential for the prosperity of our programs. In a country that money is widely regarded as of paramount importance, we value and nurture the spiritual wealth we share. Regular members receive quality Giving Tree Gifts and souvenirs from time to time. All our programs are conceived and developed in the values of high quality, cost-effectiveness and our spiritual wealth and they have been honed to a good standard over the years. With very little financial investment, we have achieved miraculously high quality programs, brand effect and sustainability.
