There’s a little bit of excitement building around our Makers Cabinet at Riddells Creek Neighbourhood House 💛

Recently, one of the beautiful handcrafted pieces in the cabinet found a new home as a gift for someone special — exactly the kind of connection we hoped this space would help create.

Made possible through support from Macedon Ranges Community Education, the Makers Cabinet showcases the incredible creativity of local makers and artists, with a growing collection of unique, handcrafted pieces available to purchase.

Whether you’re looking for a thoughtful gift, something special for your home, or simply want to discover the talent in our community, now is a wonderful time to stop by and take a look.

Every purchase helps support local makers and celebrate the creativity that makes our region such a vibrant place to live.

We're excited to see the momentum building and can't wait to welcome more local makers and supporters to the cabinet in the months ahead.

📍 Visit us during opening hours (Monday–Thursday, 9:30am–3pm) and see what treasures you might find.

🏡 Help Us Reimagine the Community Shed 🏡

Tucked away behind the Neighbourhood House is a large community shed with plenty of untapped potential.

As we look to the future, one of our goals is to bring this space back to life and transform it into a vibrant, welcoming place that supports creativity, learning, connection and community participation.

But before we decide what that looks like, we'd love to hear from you.

💭 How would you like to see the shed used?

Some ideas that have already been suggested include:

🎨 Pottery and ceramics
🖌️ Art and life drawing
🚲 Bicycle repair workshops
🔧 Repair cafés
💃 Dance and movement classes
🎉 Children's parties
👩‍🏫 Demonstrations and skill-sharing workshops
🎵 Music, making and creative projects
🌱 Sustainability and environmental activities
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Intergenerational programs

But we're sure there are many possibilities we haven't thought of yet.

Perhaps you're a local facilitator, artist, maker, educator, community group or small business with an idea for a class, workshop, activity or regular program?

The shed is currently available for hire, and we'd love to hear from people interested in running activities that align with the Neighbourhood House's vision of fostering lifelong learning, wellbeing, inclusion, creativity and community connection.

We're also happy to show interested individuals and groups through the space so they can explore its potential and discuss what's possible.

Whether you have a fully formed idea or just the beginnings of one, we'd love to start the conversation.

💬 Tell us in the comments:
What would encourage you to use the shed?

Or get in touch with us directly if you'd like to explore hiring the space or bringing an idea to life.

Let's work together to create something meaningful for the community.

Introducing the Riddells Creek Community Flock 🪿

One Flock, Many Stories.

Over the coming months, Riddells Creek Neighbourhood House will be inviting local clubs, community groups, organisations, schools and businesses to help create something special.

The Riddells Creek Community Flock is a collaborative community art project celebrating the people, groups and organisations that make our town such a vibrant place to live.

Each participating group will be invited to adopt one of our iconic wooden geese and transform it into a unique artwork that reflects who they are, what they do, and the contribution they make to community life.

From sporting clubs and emergency services to environmental groups, schools, businesses and volunteers, every goose will tell a different story.

Once completed, the flock will come together as a permanent community installation, creating a colourful celebration of the many people who help Riddells Creek thrive.

Over the coming weeks, invitations will begin making their way to community groups across town.

If you're part of a local organisation and think your group should be involved, we'd love to hear from you.

Watch this space as the flock begins to take shape!

Help Us Improve Local Food Support in Riddells Creek

At Riddells Creek Neighbourhood House, we're exploring ways to strengthen local food support initiatives, including our community pantry, community garden, and opportunities for food education and connection.

As the cost of living continues to rise, we know many people in our community are feeling the impact. We'd like to better understand local needs, challenges, and ideas so we can plan services that are relevant, accessible, and helpful.

We invite you to complete our short community survey. Whether you've used our pantry, shared produce from your garden, attended one of our programs, or simply have ideas to share, we'd love to hear from you.

📝 The survey takes just a few minutes to complete.

🔒 All responses are completely anonymous. We are not collecting names, email addresses, or any identifying information. Your feedback will be used only to help us understand community needs and explore opportunities to improve local food support.

👉 Complete the survey here:

On tomorrow!

Australian gardens are as multi-cultural as our society. Plants we love to grow – and eat – have come from everywhere, except the Poles. Especially they have come to us via the once mighty Roman Empire.

Love cucumbers, pomegranates, pumpkins, lavender and wine? Then thank the Romans. Or have a bird bath, fountain or statue in your garden? Then thank the Romans.

Or, if your thanks are muted because you are a staunch advocate for local plants in local places, then join the discussion… What is an Australian garden?

Join local resident Janet Wood, who specialises in the botany of the ancient (Greek and Roman) world and the development of the enclosed spaces we call gardens, for this fascinating and thought-provoking session.

⛑️ Could you step in and help if someone stopped breathing? ⛑️

CPR is one of the most valuable skills you can learn. In a medical emergency, the actions taken in the first few minutes can make a critical difference while waiting for emergency services to arrive.

We're exploring the opportunity to host a half-day CPR Refresher Training session at Riddells Creek Neighbourhood House in late July and are currently seeking expressions of interest from community members who would like to take part.

Whether your certification is due for renewal, it's a requirement for your work or volunteering role, or you'd simply like to feel more confident responding in an emergency, we'd love to hear from you.

One of the benefits of running the course locally is that community members won't need to travel elsewhere to update this important qualification.

To proceed, we need a minimum of 7 participants, so if you're interested, please get in touch as soon as possible.

💲 Cost is yet to be confirmed and will depend on participant numbers, but we expect it to be approximately $100 per person.

📞 Phone: (03) 5428 7836
📧 Email: [email protected]

Registering your interest does not commit you to attending—it simply helps us determine whether there is enough demand to run the training here in Riddells Creek.

Please feel free to share this post with friends, family members, sporting clubs, community groups, volunteers or workplaces who may also be interested.

💜 World Elder Abuse Awareness Day | 15 June 💜

Take a look around our community and you'll find older people at the heart of it.

They're the volunteers who lend a hand, the grandparents cheering from the sidelines, the neighbours with a lifetime of stories to share, and the familiar faces who help make Riddells Creek such a welcoming place to live.

This World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, we're encouraged to think about how we value and support older people in our communities.

Elder abuse can take many forms, including financial, emotional, physical and social abuse. It often goes unseen, and many older people may feel unable to speak up. Older women can face additional challenges due to the combined impacts of ageism and gender inequality.

One of the simplest things we can do is listen. Make time for a conversation. Check in on an older friend, neighbour or family member. Hear their stories, seek their perspectives and help ensure their voices are heard.

A community where older people feel respected, included and safe is a stronger community for everyone.

💜 This week, why not:
• Share a cuppa and a chat with an older person in your life
• Learn more about elder abuse and how to recognise it
• Explore initiatives like and the [un]Silencing of Older Women project
• Celebrate the contributions older people make to our community every day

Because growing older should never mean becoming invisible.

✨ Help us shape the next 12 months at Riddells Creek Neighbourhood House. ✨

As we work on our annual plan for the next twelve months, we're looking ahead to what our community wants, needs and would love to be involved in.

Many of you already participate in our social groups, classes, workshops, community projects, room hire activities and special events. But we're always looking for new ways to bring people together, build connections and create opportunities for learning, creativity and fun.

💭 So we have a question for you:

What would you love to see happening at RCNH?

It may be:

• A new social group
• A hobby or special interest club
• Workshops or classes
• Community projects
• Family activities
• Health and wellbeing programs
• School holiday programs
• Guest speakers
• Skills-sharing sessions
• Something we've never thought of before!

No idea is too big or too small.

Whether you're a regular participant, have attended something in the past, or have never set foot through our doors, we'd love to hear your thoughts.

👇 Drop your ideas in the comments and help us create a program that reflects the interests and aspirations of our community.

Who knows? Your suggestion could become our next great community initiative.
