Our special volunteers who visit patients in the cardiology ward are precious. There’s nothing like looking someone in the eye who gets what you’re experiencing.

They’ve walked your path and their reassurance is golden. 💛

So are these lovely little bags gifted during the visits.

A soothing, caring reminder of your hospital and mended heart experience.

Included in this little treasure bag is a gorgeous felt heart from the project. Lovingly made from volunteers who are sending their love to you and your heart.

Last week we celebrated our amazing volunteers at the Richmond Epworth Hospital. We’re so proud and grateful of all the kinds of ways they contribute.

Okay, now that we have your attention - this post is a complete tease… except for one lucky person who may have in their possession Ticket Number 1082!

We had our 2026 Heartbeat Epworth Mother’s Day Raffle… and due to a technical error (oops!) we don’t have a photo to show of said hamper… but we can share that it was a biggy!

More than $1,500 of wonderful, delicious, beauty inducing, feel good treats including a bottle of superb wine from huge supporters of Heartbeat Epworth, Levantine Hill / 😍

We’re so grateful and delighted to share that more than $6,000 was raised by our dedicated volunteers who generously gave their time to sell tickets and put together an AMAZING hamper filled with generous contributions and gifts.

The raffle has been done, drawn, winner notified - all in time for Mother’s Day.

We’re feeling happy (and no, it’s not because we’ve been sipping superb wine full of antioxidants) but because we’ve successfully raised more funds for some very important purposes, close to many, many, many hearts. 🥰

All raffle proceeds will contribute towards Heartbeat Epworth’s $100,000 donation to fund a major upgrade of the GE Cardiac Monitoring System and four Telemetry Units for Cato 3 at Epworth Richmond.

This vital equipment helps deliver the highest standard of care for cardiac patients.

The advanced monitoring system continuously tracks heart rhythms, vital signs and clinical changes, allowing doctors and nurses to respond more quickly, communicate more effectively, and support timely intervention when every second matters.

Telemetry units also allow patients to move more freely around the ward while remaining safely monitored remotely, supporting both recovery and comfort during what can be a very vulnerable time.

The people behind some big dollars - and what that really means. You’re looking at an amazing group of volunteers who have helped raise $60,000, alongside generous donations from our members, this year alone.

Grateful former Epworth cardiac patients supporting Heartbeat at Epworth Richmond. These are the people who quietly, consistently, put in the work. Fundraising, organising, showing up, visiting cardiac patients.

Our target is $100,000. We’ve pledged that amount towards upgrading the cardiac patient monitoring system on Ward Cato 3 at Epworth Richmond, the dedicated cardiac inpatient ward.

That’s this year’s goal. We have many years and fundraising experience behind us.

The 7 figure kind.

And yes, they are big numbers. Really big.

But what happens to those numbers? … they don’t just sit.

They turn into equipment. They turn into opportunities. They turn into knowledge.

They turn into scholarships that send nurses and medical staff out into the world to learn from international leaders… and then bring that knowledge straight back to their colleagues and patient bedsides.

From a patient and family perspective… that matters more than can properly be put into words.

Memories are long from the bedside. ICU. Upstairs in the Cato 3 Cardiac Ward. Watching the staff in action. Watching the consistency of care, the skill, the teamwork.

Knowing that if they weren’t doing it right… It’s a huge responsibility.

While full of admiration and gratitude, what you’re understandably not thinking of at the time … is how much of that confidence, that capability, that calm teamwork… is built on years of learning, sharing, growing …and scholarships.

There’s something quietly powerful about a small, handmade gift… especially when it’s made with love and given at just the right moment.

Each little heart is hand-stitched, unique, and filled with care. Tucked into a small gold bag alongside our Heartbeat information, these pocket-sized treasures become something truly special during our Patient Support Visits… a gentle reminder that no one is alone.

Many patients keep them close, tucked into a pocket or held in the hand - something soft and grounding to hold onto in uncertain moments.

Our Heartbeat Epworth volunteers are incredibly grateful to the beautiful community behind 1000 Hearts - and especially to Jan, along with her granddaughters Sienna and Alessia who have lovingly created over 70 felt hearts for us to share with cardiac patients at Epworth Richmond.

A pocket full of kindness and comfort.

The philosophy behind 1000 Hearts is simple and powerful:

When you know, you know. A Second Chance. ❤️

Heartbeat Epworth is an association of cardiac patients who in appreciation of their own cardiac treatment wish to “give back” and make a meaningful contribution to the support and assistance of other cardiac patients.

Our members are mostly cardiac patients and/or their families; however, we welcome anyone who believes the purposes of heartbeat are worthwhile and wants to join us.
