Today is the final day of what's been an exciting 3 days on the Gold Coast for the 2026 Special Olympics Australia Golf Classic!

On Sunday, the event kicked off with our partners joining athletes on the course for an afternoon of golf and good company. A huge thank you to our partners and a special thank you to City of Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate for coming along to celebrate with us.

Days like Sunday are a reminder that the Special Olympics movement is about so much more than competition - it's about the people and organisations who show up, and champion inclusion alongside our athletes.

Thank you to our national partners: Australian Sports Commission, IGA, Law Enforcement Torch Run, Gallagher Australia, Belgravia Apparel - Sports and My Plan Manager, as well as our Golf Classic major event partners Golf Australia and Callaway Golf South Pacific, who help make opportunities like this possible.

A big welcome to Special Olympics Australia - Townsville!

As we celebrate 50 years of inclusion through sport, we're proud to expand our community in North Queensland and create more opportunities for people with intellectual disability and/or autism to play sport, build confidence, make friends and experience the life-changing benefits of participation.

A huge thank you to the volunteers, families and local community members who have helped make this club a reality.

Meet Stacey.

Special Olympics NSW athlete representative and proud advocate for SOA. At eight years old, Stacey found her place in the movement. At thirteen, she was the youngest member of Team NSW and brought home gold.

Not stopping there, Stacey has competed in the Paralympic Games, played basketball for Australia, competed in multiple Special Olympics events, and this year she’s headed to the 2026 National Games for Ten Pin Bowling.

50 years. 50 stories.

Meet the Wren family. 💛

Kelly Wren is one of the most decorated athletes in Special Olympics Australia history - a multiple World Games gold medallist, an Order of Australia recipient, and a coach who gives back as much as she's achieved.

Some of her greatest moments have been alongside her brother Michael. Together, they beat a tough USA team to claim mixed doubles gold at the Special Olympics World Games in 2011.

Families like the Wrens are the heart and soul of Special Olympics Australia - the people who have shown up, competed with everything they have, and made this movement what it is across 50 years.

A huge thank you to Metcash for bringing this story to life.

Meet Geoff.

His involvement in SOA began in 1992, when his son Daniel began playing soccer for Sydney South. Geoff joined as an assistant coach - and never really left. Thirty-plus years later, he's held roles at club, state and national levels, and is still one of the people who makes this movement run.

In his own words: "The reward is in seeing the athletes grow - through their sporting challenges, achievements, and the friendships they build along the way."

Volunteers like Geoff are the lifeblood of Special Olympics Australia. This National Volunteer Week, we're proud to celebrate them.
