Most people don't know we run camps, conferences and group retreats at The Tops.

The Tops sits on the escarpment at Stanwell Tops, an hour south of Sydney. School groups come here for high ropes and team days. Youth groups for weekend retreats. Southern Cross Kids Camps has been running its programs through us for twenty years, bringing kids who otherwise wouldn't get one.

Same Fresh Hope that runs aged care, affordable housing, retirement communities. A campfire in the bush and a shared table at Borella are doing the same work in different rooms.

Places that cultivate belonging. Places that feel like home.

Today is Aged Care Employee Day, a special opportunity to recognise and thank the people who make such a difference in the lives of older Australians every day, and particularly those who work across our services at Fresh Hope Communities.

To our aged care staff, Nick Jones, General Manager of Residential Services shares this message, "Whether you work in nursing, care, lifestyle and meaningful engagement, day respite, allied health, hospitality, maintenance, cleaning, administration, or any other part of our team, your contribution matters. Together, you help create welcoming communities where people feel safe, valued, connected and at home.

This year has brought significant change across the aged care sector, including the introduction of the new Aged Care Act and the Strengthened Standards. Through it all, you have shown resilience, professionalism and a continued focus on delivering quality care and support for our residents, clients and their families. The work you do has a lasting impact."

Thank you for all you do and happy Aged Care Employee Day!

What began as a modest, grant‑funded initiative grew into a place where people rediscovered community in ways that were both deeply personal and surprisingly powerful. Having concluded its 12‑month funding period, our Coffee Club at Pendle Hill Retirement Community provided a valuable insight into how funding, evaluation, and impact come together to bring shared benefits for Fresh Hope Communities and the wider community.

Green Hills resident Rose carries a story that could well sit in an historical archive, yet it quietly infuses her everyday and the lives of our residents today in the sweetest of ways. At just fifteen years of age, the aptly named Rose, stepped into a world of flowers and possibility at the renowned Constance Spry florist school in Sussex, England. It wasn’t long before that dedication took her to Mayfair, into one of London’s most prestigious florist shops. From there, her world expanded in a way few could imagine. Buckingham Palace. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) gives us all the opportunities to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and learn together and explore how each of us contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Particularly, we are reminded that reconciliation begins with listening; to people, to place and to Country.

As part of Fresh Hope Communities’ Reflect: Reconciliation Action Plan, our work over the past year has focused on learning and listening. We have been taking time to understand what respectful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples looks like, recognising that trust and right relationship grow slowly and need care and commitment.

Jared Naidoo, Fresh Hope Communities’ Social Impact and Funding Lead, explains how we are practically outworking this as an organisation.

Cedar on Collins Retirement Community brought Kiama together once again for its third annual Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea in support of The Cancer Council - a heartfelt gathering joined by MPs Katelin McInerney and Serena Copley, inspiring guest speakers, and a community determined to make a difference.

This year’s event was filled with powerful stories, generosity and moments that moved the room.

The event would not have been possible without our generous local sponsors: Endota Spa, Kiama Leagues Club, Dovida Home Care, The Sea and Beau, Keith Borland, Tiny Homes Joadja, BillyJo Kiama, Silica Restaurant and Indigo Rose Home Living.

Thank you also to our wonderful staff who coordinated and delivered this fantastic event.

As National Volunteer week continues, Fresh Hope Communities celebrates Janice, whose music and compassion bring joy and connection to Borella House. Her story is an inspiring reminder of the power of volunteering in community. It’s also a reminder to all of us that the gifts, talents or skills we all possess can make a difference in the lives of others.
