Our Story
We would like to introduce to you a dear member of our Community, seven year old Finn O'Donovan. We know you will be instantly charmed by Finn's adorable smile and sparkling eyes which give a hint of the delightful and adventurous boy that Finn is. A boy who loves doing all things most boys his age love - riding a bicycle, dirt bike riding and playing with his friends, siblings and cousins. He is a delight to be around and being on the receiving end of one of Finn's similes is indeed magical and contagious.
Finn is the son of Rebecca and Ross O'Donovan and brother to eleven year old sister Ella and nine year old sister Nia. They are a beautiful family who are well known for being community minded and respectable family, always willing to help others in need.
Tragically, this family is now in need of the support of the community as they face the reality of Finn's recent diagnosis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD is a degenerative, terminal disease which affects young boys, with 1 in 3,500 boys born with DMD. The cruel manner in which this disease inflicts itself cannot be ignored. It indiscriminately attacks all muscles of the body, which slowly breakdown and most boys become wheelchair bound by their late primary school years to early teens. This is often followed by cardiovascular and respiratory difficulties and life expectancy is in the mid-twenties.
This diagnosis is a tragedy which has left Finn's family completely devastated. Ross and Rebecca are remaining positive and are showing everyone in their community what the meaning of true love is. Their pure love for their Finn and their girls Ella and Nia has given them the strength and determination to ensure no stone is left unturned in their mission to give Finn the best quality of life available. They are very proud people and don't ask for anything other than the love and support of the community.
It is the community's love for the O'Donovan family that has inspired our passion to raise money and support them on this journey.
