After an intense three-month campaign, I find myself reflecting on this journey. While I wish I could be announcing my election success as the first Muslim councillor—and potentially the first person of colour—in Darebin, I am grateful for the invaluable experiences and connections I have made along the way. I met great people who I would like to keep as friends for a long time.
Though I cannot celebrate a win for Gaza at this moment, the learning and growth I have achieved during this campaign are truly profound. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who dedicated their time, resources, and energy to support me. I am truly sorry that we couldn’t achieve the victory we all hoped for.
However, this is not the end. There will be another opportunity.
I wish the elected councillors all the best.
