This week we celebrated a very special milestone as Redland Bay parkrun marked its 9th anniversary. Since our first event on 10 June 2017, our community has continued to grow through participation, encouragement and volunteering, and it was wonderful to celebrate this achievement together.

A total of 82 participants crossed the finish line this week. We were delighted to welcome 13 first timers to Redland Bay parkrun, including Troy Delaney, who completed their very first parkrun. We hope you enjoyed your experience and look forward to seeing you back again soon.

Congratulations to our first finishers:

Corey Rodriguez was the first male finisher in a time of 19:23.
Sophie Perisce was the first female finisher in 22:39.

There were three new Personal Best performances recorded this week. Congratulations to Liam Preston, Andy Day and Sue Bebbington on achieving new PBs.

A special congratulations goes to Sue Bebbington, who celebrated her 100 parkrun milestone this week. Reaching this milestone represents dedication and consistency, and we are thrilled to celebrate this achievement with you.

Our highest age grade performances were:

Paul Sutherland with an impressive 79.50% (19:50 in the VM55-59 category).
Lainie Groundwater with 75.25% (23:26 in the VW50-54 category).

This week's most experienced parkrunners were:

Paul Sutherland with 520 parkruns.
Judy Lai with 435 parkruns.

As always, parkrun simply cannot happen without our amazing volunteers. Thank you to this week's hi-vis heroes:

Eric Opoku-Nti, Lesley Bongaarts, Mark Oates, Felicity Laritz, Greg Henwood, Debbie Olivier, Alison Rogers, Monique Whitewood, Cheryl Lawie, Leanne Schulz, Trevor Schulz, Judy Lai, Wing Lai and Alicia Kotynski.

If you would like to give volunteering a try in the coming weeks, we'd love to hear from you. There are roles to suit everyone, and full support is always provided.

Over the past nine years, 7,056 participants have completed 42,761 parkruns at Redland Bay, covering an incredible 213,805 kilometres. Along the way, 5,936 Personal Bests have been recorded, and 613 volunteers have filled 5,227 volunteer roles. The average attendance across all events is 100 participants.

Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate nine wonderful years of Redland Bay parkrun. Whether you walked, jogged, ran, volunteered or cheered others on, you continue to make this community such a special place. Here's to the next year of parkrun adventures together.

See you all next Saturday.

REDLAND BAY PARKRUN - THE MORNING THE BAY TURNED INTO A STADIUM # 426 6th June 2026

Redland Bay woke up ready for action. The air was cool (very cool), the water was still, and the stage was set. At 7am sharp, 113 participants surged toward the start line, the kind of crowd that tells you something special is about to unfold.

VISITORS -THE PLACE TO BE
Today we met some awesome participants coming from far and wide – Toowoomba, Perth and London.

MILESTONE MOMENTS - THE CROWD GOES WILD
Two parkrunners stepped into the spotlight today, hitting official milestones with the confidence of seasoned pros:
• Kevin Butler
• Sam Lawson
Sam even backed it up with a PB — that’s how you celebrate in style.

THE FRONT PACK - A MASTERCLASS IN PACING
The men’s race saw Keith Cassilles Southgate break away early, powering home in 20:26. Smooth, controlled, clinical — the kind of run that makes you think he had another gear if he needed it. Keith was also full of encouragement to those around him.
On the ladies’ side, Lainie Groundwater delivered a stella performance. Lainie’s 22:56 wasn’t just fast — it came with a 76.89% age grade, the mark of someone who knows exactly how to dominate a course.

AGE GRADE FIREWORKS - THE CROWD RISES TO ITS FEET
But the loudest cheer of the morning? That belonged to Colin Bridge.
At 87.84% in the VM80–84 category, Colin’s 24:32 wasn’t just impressive — it was the kind of run that sends a ripple through the field. A masterclass in longevity, grit, and pure competitive spirit.
Lainie’s earlier effort secured her a strong second on the table, but today, Colin owned the Age-Grade headline.

THE VETERANS - LEGENDS OF THE BAY
Two giants of the parkrun world were on course today:
• Merilyn McCann – 483 runs
• Bradley McCann – 454 runs
A combined 937 parkruns.

THE ROOKIES - NEW BLOOD ENTERS THE ARENA
Two awesome newcomers stepped up for their first ever parkrun:
• Rachel Buckingham
• Billie Rodriquez
Every parkrun career starts with one step — and these two took theirs, at Redland Bay, with the whole crowd behind them.

PB CARNAGE - RECORDS FALL LIKE DOMINOES
Eight runners tore up their previous bests:
Riley Pearson, Aaron Trask, Michael McGrath, Richard Norman, David Smith, Karen Manson, Lucy Koellner, and Sam Lawson.
Cool air. Fast legs. Perfect storm. Well done to all.

THE VOLUNTEERS - THE UNSUNG HEROES OF THE DAY
Every great sporting event has a world class crew behind it. Today’s 14 strong volunteer team kept the show running with precision:
Helen Glover, Diane Pitt, Neil Pitt, Stephanie Gandy, Clare Pollard, Ella Pollard, David Gandy, Leanne Schulz, Hamish Van Der Meer, Liam Van Der Meer, Sophie Perisce, Amy Butler, Caroline Pollard.
Parkrun can’t happen without volunteers, so please do consider playing your part at future events. If you can hit a volunteer ratio of at least 10%, that’s a great commitment.

EVENT HISTORY - THE STATS THAT TELL THE STORY
Since launching on 10 June 2017, Redland Bay parkrun has chalked up:
• 7,043 participants
• 42,679 completed parkruns
• 213,395 km covered
• 5,933 PBs
• 612 volunteers filling 5,212 roles.
• Average attendance: 100
A powerhouse of community - week after week, year after year.

That’s it from Redland Bay parkrun #426. My personal thanks to everyone that attended and made today’s event happen. Another morning of milestones, magic, and memories. From all of us here on the Bayside — enjoy your weekend, keep moving, and we’ll see you next Saturday.

Happy parkrun eve, everyone. After two unfortunate cancellations we're looking forward to welcoming you all to Redland Bay parkrun tomorrow.
Our volunteer roster is full, thanks to those offering to help.
The weather should be sunny, but a cool 10 degrees at the start.
Tomorrow we have an extra reason to celebrate with it being Queensland Day. So in the best tradition of Queensland if you have something maroon to wear (which sadly I don't 😕) please come along dressed in the State's signature colour.
Volunteer photo at 06:40 and for everyone else see you for the pre-event briefing at 06:50.

Redland Bay parkrun needs you!

The runners are ready, their shoes are laced tight, but without some volunteers, Saturday's not quite right!

We still need two Marshals with smiles big and bright,
to cheer on the runners and keep them in sight.

A Timekeeper too, with fingers so quick, to record every finisher—click, click, click!

A Photographer needed to capture the fun, the smiles, the effort and the sprinting done.

A Barcode Scanner, the hero unseen, making sure all results are accurate and clean.

No experience needed, we'll show you the way, and you'll earn plenty of thanks on Saturday!

So if you've got an hour and a generous heart, please volunteer and play your part.

Comment below if you can help this Saturday.

❤️💙💚 Update - Many thanks to everyone who has responded with offers to help. I'm happy to report we now have a full roster, though may add a second barcode scanner to help out if busy on the day.

After two unfortunate, weather-related cancellations I'm sure we're all looking forward to getting together on Saturday. 💚💙❤️
