Do you travel long distances for treatment?

The Isolated Patients Travel and Accommodation Assistance Scheme (IPTAAS) can provide financial assistance when you travel for treatment that is not available locally.

From Friday 12 June, the IPTAAS system is getting an upgrade, and we are incorporating the NSW Digital ID or Multi Factor Authentication to make the process simpler, and more secure.

The IPTAAS system will undergo planned maintenance on 11 June 2026 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. During this time you will not be able to submit online applications.

You may email us any applications during this period at [email protected].

For more information, visit: www.iptaas.health.nsw.gov.au or call 1800 478 227.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Today is Mabo Day, acknowledging the legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo who led the fight to overturn Australian laws on land ownership.

On 3 June 1992, the High Court ruled Australia was not ‘terra nullius’ or land belonging to no one at the time of colonisation, and recognised the land rights of the Meriam people of the Torres Strait.

Sadly, Eddie Koiki Mabo passed away a few months before the decision was handed down, but the decision reshaped Australian land law and paved the way for the Native Title Act 1993.

This month we marked World Family Doctor Day at AMS Redfern, celebrating the work of our General Practitioners (GPs).

Our GPs provide holistic care for our patients – treating the whole person – by considering the physical, mental and social wellbeing of our patients.

In 1971, in the early days of AMS Redfern, volunteer doctors worked alongside community volunteers to bring culturally safe healthcare into our community, establishing the very first Aboriginal Medical Service in Australia.

We’ve come a long way over the past 55 years.

Today, we have a great team of doctors who care for our patients and their loved ones every day.

Thank you! And Happy World Family Doctor Day to all of our GPs.

On National Sorry Day, we remember the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families, communities and Country.

We remember the ‘Stolen Generations’ and acknowledge the intergenerational trauma experienced by our people.

Today on Sorry Day, AMS Redfern also acknowledges the strength and resilience of our people and our rich culture.

We give thanks to those who have gone before us to show us the path toward healing.

We are proud to walk alongside our community with a shared vision for a healthier future.
