We all know that injuries can be career-ending in the dance industry.

Recent research undertaken by digs into how injuries are affecting dancers that are engaging in commercial, touring musical theatre productions; and makes the argument that there must be targeted injury prevention strategies in place to ensure that dancers are kept safe.

This builds on 'The Safe Dance Report IV: Investigating injuries in Australia’s professional dancers (2017)' - a collaboration between the University of Sydney and Ausdance National - which found that 97% of dancers reported experiencing at least one significant injury in their dance career to date. A total of 73% of dancers reported experiencing a dance-related injury in the past 12 months.

Backing this in, Dancers Australia 'National Dance Industry Report' (2022) found that 36% of dancers sustaining an injury requiring time off at least once in the last 6 months.

Art doesn’t need hardship to be “real.”

If a space is asking your body to compensate before you’ve even started moving, it’s not character-building — it’s risk.

Safety isn’t the boring part of dance. It’s the baseline that makes everything else possible: confidence, freedom, longevity.

Protect the artists. Upgrade the standard.

In 2026, dance in more digital than ever before!

Most people think of these spaces as primarily a way to market themselves, promote their company or events, or to network with other dance professionals.

But online platforms are fast becoming a place to access dance classes (and more) from anywhere in the world.

Have you ever taught or attended an online class?

Dancers Australia would like to pass on thanks and appreciation to Julie Englefield as she soon steps down from the role of Executive Director of Ausdance Queensland. Julie has held this position for 5 years, and has been a great source of knowledge and support to everyone at Dancers Australia. We appreciate you Julie!

Julie’s impact has been profound—guiding the organisation through the challenges of COVID-19, championing First Nations and child safety initiatives, and building a more inclusive, resilient dance community.

We’re deeply grateful for her integrity, vision, and care. While she’ll be taking a short break, we’re thrilled that Julie will continue in a part-time advocacy role through 2025.

The transition will be supported by our passionate and committed Management Committee, who will guide Ausdance QLD into its next chapter with care and clarity.

With strength, gratitude, and great respect—thank you, Julie. 💛

🚨Are you being paid super?🚨

Since July 2020, arts and entertainment workers have been entitled to super regardless of whether you are an employee or sub-contractor.

We are seriously concerned about widespread reports of dance companies not paying super. Dancers retire with some of the lowest superannuation of all workers in Australia.
