Eye On Redcliffe Episode 7: Mending Broken Dreams At The Redcliffe Repair Cafe is here!

This week on Eye On Redcliffe Gerard visits Les Barkla, the founder of Repair Cafe Redcliffe Peninsula.

By giving broken household items a second chance at life, Les and his Repair Cafe have saved Redcliffe thousnads of dollars and have diverted over 2 tonnes of stuff from landfill.

The Repair Cafe Redcliffe Peninsula is an uplifting and high energy environment and we loved filming there!

Today Gerard took Eye On Redcliffe to the Redcliffe Repair Café for our upcoming episode.

The Redcliffe Repair Café is a community group run by Peninsula local Les Barkla which meets on the first Saturday of each month at the Uniting Church, Redcliffe.

The Repair Café is all about fixing broken things, restoring cherished items, saving curious oddities, and most of all, community. The Repair Café has saved over 2 tonnes of household items from landfill, which translates into thousands of dollars of needless waste averted.

In 8 years Brisbane and the surrounding regions will play host to the 2032 Olympic Games. Redcliffe will not be included.

The birthplace of Queensland has been left off the Olympic agenda.

What are your thoughts? Should Redcliffe host an Olympic venue for the 2032 Games? Is it not a travesty that the most picturesque part of Brisbane has been overlooked?

One of the Peninsula's grand old ladies is for sale! Hopefully she is bought by a loving buyer who will resist the urge to demolish.

This leads us to an obvious question: Should we have stricter heratige rules in Redcliffe? Should lovely old homes like 11 Josephine St be protected?
