Those who arrived early were treated to a magnificent sunrise over the trail this morning.

We welcomed plenty of visitors for event #41🎉 including some who had travelled all the way from Townsville👏
A total of 52 finishers were supported by 12 fantastic volunteers 🙏. While the trail has dried out a little and wasn't as slippery as recent weeks, the fresh wind certainly kept our volunteers at the finish line on their toes.

Thankfully, post-parkrun coffee ☕️provided the perfect way to warm up and catch up afterwards.

This weekend also marks one year since we held our fundraiser to purchase our parkrun kit — a milestone worth celebrating as our community continues to grow.

A huge congratulations and sincere thank you to local legend David Reid, who today reached his 25 Volunteer milestone. Even more remarkably, every one of those volunteer credits has been earned at Red Hill Rail Trail parkrun. We are incredibly grateful for David's ongoing support and contribution to our event.

A special shout-out to Lee and Kate as they head north for a winter escape. In true parkrun spirit, they chose to spend their final parkrun before setting off as volunteers. We wish them safe travels and plenty of parkrun adventures along the way. You can follow their journey via Ozwold Explores:

As we move into winter, filling the roster can become a little more challenging. If you're able to help in the coming weeks, we'd love to hear from you. Getting in early gives you first pick of the volunteer roles and makes life a little easier for our Run Directors. Thank you all for joining us and making Red Hill Rail Trail parkrun such a special way to start the weekend. 🍃🍂🚶‍♂️🏃🏼‍♀️

🚂 🚂 All aboard! It’s almost parkrun day!

We’re still looking for a barcode scanner 🤳🏻 for this Saturday. It’s a fun volunteer role and an essential one that needs to be filled for our event to go ahead. If you can help, please get in touch.

We’d also love a helping hand with pre-event setup and delivering the First Timers Welcome. Both of these roles can be done before your run, so you can still enjoy your parkrun afterwards.

Every volunteer role helps keep the train on the tracks. Thanks for supporting your parkrun community! 💙🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🚂

Did you know that, as well as our event-day course check, we often do a midweek check of the trail too?

One of the great things about our beautiful tree-lined course is the scenery, but the downside is that fallen branches and trees can occasionally create hazards on the trail.

Since September, Red Hill Rail Trail parkrun volunteers have reported fallen trees using the Snap Send Solve app on five separate occasions. Each time, the council has cleared them within hours, helping keep the trail safe and ensuring parkrun can go ahead.

If you spot a fallen tree or other safety issue on the trail, please report it and let us know too. 🌿

Our first parkrun for the winter season was a real doozy! The deliciously muddy conditions along the Red Hill Rail Trail didn't deter our hardy parkrunners from their 5km Saturday morning fix. A few were doing their first ever parkrun, including an 8 week old baby (how young is too young for your very own parkrun barcode...?) At the other end of the scale was the most delightful 92 year old cheering with joy as her close family member flew across the finish line! Whatever the age and stage, it was smiles all round 😊

Big thanks to the Mornington Peninsula Shire for their chainsaw handy-work on Friday clearing away trees and debris from the trail.

Wishing all our followers a wonderful long weekend, and hope to see you again at the Red Hill Rail Trail parkrun next week! 🎉

Is Parkrun the flash mob of running events?
Around 7:30, our wonderful volunteers emerge to check the course and set up colourful cones and flags.
At 8, a crowd has gathered for the Red Hill train whistle. Runners dash, dogs bark, walkers chatter - down, then back up that dreaded hill to more vollies who time and scan amid a communal post-run energy.
And then by 9:30 or so, it’s packed up and silent again. Parkrunners off to their weekend coffee or jobs or sports having started the weekend with a spark!

Oh baby, listen to this

If you don’t know how to do it, just come and ask me
Time to turn over a new leaf
Try not to miss the Run Director brief

Set your alarm for seven, stay off the booze
And bring you favourite running shoes
Follow us on Facebook for the latest news
There’s a tail walker so you can’t lose

You know what to do

Parkrun Parkrun, come to Parkrun
Set the alarm for seven and bring your dog along
Parkrun Parkrun come to Parkrun
And baby you can walk or run

This trail’s for lovin' and it starts at eight
Stretch up in the carpark if you’re running late
Celebrate a milestone, we won’t forget
Or collect the letter R for your Parkrun alphabet

The aim is wellness and you know its for fun
And yes, you can walk, jog or run
We start with a train whistle not a gun
Meet us after for a cuppa and a sticky bun

Parkrun Parkrun, come to Parkrun
Set the alarm for seven and bring your dog along
Parkrun Parkrun come to Parkrun
And baby you can walk or run

Parkrun Parkrun, come to Parkrun
Set the alarm for seven and bring your dog along
Parkrun Parkrun come to Parkrun
And baby you can walk or run

You can do it more and more, counting up the score
You’ll collect a lot of points but you don’t know what they’re for
And I’ll can give you a token that will reflect you time
But don’t take it home because its mine

Parkrun Parkrun, come to Parkrun
Set the alarm for seven and bring your dog along
Parkrun Parkrun come to Parkrun
And baby you can walk or run

Parkrun turns me on
