What does it actually mean to be “All In” for reconciliation when your work and decisions directly impact First Nations people with lived experience of su***de?

It’s a reminder that reconciliation requires everyday responsibility from all Australians.

The next National Mental Health and Su***de Prevention Agreement (2027–2032) is currently being developed. It guides how governments work together to deliver mental health and harm reductions in su***de prevention supports and services.

The National Mental Health Consumers Alliance is inviting people with lived experience to complete a 20-minute survey about whether the current agreement has delivered safe, effective, and accessible mental health services and supports.

📝👉 Take the survey here - https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6B5PDNN

They are also seeking mental health consumers to participate in deliberative polling and deep-dive interviews about their lived experience to help shape a system that better supports people and communities.

Each selected participant will be compensated at a rate of $95.20 per hour for their time. If you’re interested, you can find more information and submit an EOI below.

“I felt so much joy to see all the Aboriginal mob be able to come to the Torres Strait Islands.” - NILEG Representative 💚💙🖤🤍

Reflections like this from our 2025 Annual Gathering remind us that while Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are often spoken about as one group nationally, it's important to recognise that we each hold distinct cultures, languages, and history.

Creating opportunities to come together on each other’s Country allows space to honour those differences while strengthening connection and learning from one another.

“We only have maybe two mental health workers for thousands of people. This isn’t realistic.”

Councillor Ranetta Wosomo (Mui Wakai Arganilaig / Karbai Thabu) and National Indigenous Lived Experience Group (NILEG) representative, and Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Badu Island, shares the reality on the ground and the urgent need for a stronger, culturally informed Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) workforce across Zenadth Kes.

Real change requires investment in local, culturally safe mental health and social and emotional wellbeing workforces. Learn more via our website: www.ialec.com.au

We are seeking a dedicated Policy and Reform Officer to join our team on a full-time, fixed term basis (35 hours per week). Working remotely with flexible arrangements, you will play a pivotal role in shaping IALEC’s policy position and national advocacy.

What You’ll Do:
âś… Drive Policy: Lead the development of strategic policy positions, high-quality briefs, and submissions on SEWB, mental health, and su***de prevention reform.

âś…Consult & Engage: Design and facilitate culturally safe consultations with diverse groups, ranging from the IALEC Board of Directors to national lived experience networks (NILEG/LLENs) and specific community cohorts.

âś…Research & Strategise: Conduct strategic research to identify program expansion opportunities, analyse lived experience data, and build impactful research partnerships.

When people feel safe to share, healing can begin.

Aunty Elgina speaks about her experience as a National Indigenous Lived Experience Group (NILEG) representative and the importance of spaces where people are listened to, supported, and able to learn from one another.

Today, on World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we recognise that psychosocial safety is workplace safety.

The SEWB workforce carry grief, trauma, racism, and community responsibility every day. This reality is why it’s crucial to support their safety at work.

IALEC’s Priorities for Su***de Prevention: A First Nations Lived Experience Collective Statement (2026) makes this clear. Under Priority 7: Build and Sustain a Supported Peer Workforce, we recognise that psychosocial hazards in the workplace put mob at risk, and that workforce wellbeing depends on systems and organisations being strong enough to hold workers.

If we expect this workforce to keep holding communities, organisations must take action, strengthening support, safety, and sustainability in practice.
