Winter is definitely here and for our Cubs and Scouts that can only mean one thing....

Fire pits and marshmallows!!

How great it was to watch the satisfaction on the faces of these cubs after they toasted marshmallows on fires that they built and lit themselves.

Learning important life skills in a safe environment is vital to the ongoing growth and maturity of our youth.

What a privilege it is to share experiences like these with our kids!

Good, clean, creative fun with NO devices in sight!

Did you have a marble run when you were younger? Maybe you still do, tucked away in a cupboard somewhere πŸ€” They're the best fun ever!!

Last night our cubs were challenged to create a giant marble run using cardboard tubes, packing materials and anything their imaginations deemed appropriate to create a GIANT marble run.
The first 10 minutes was planning time then they jumped straight into the task.

The excitement, enthusiasim and peer encouragement in our hall was heart warming with some pretty decent results too!

Pics of the build are below with videos of the finished structures in the comments.

Everyone, including the big kids (aka leaders πŸ˜†) didn't want the night to end - we were having too much fun!

This will definitely be a challenge we revisit, the cubs have already started talking about ways to improve their runs for next time.

Do you know what Prusiking is?

It's a firm favourite here at Kentish Scouts and is the act of climbing a rope using a prusik, or friction hitch.

If you think your young person might like to try this (or any of the other fun activities we do 😎) reach out to us and they can join us for a 4 week free trial.

They'll build confidence, strengthen friendships and learn new life skills along the way too!

Last last year one of our cubs set us all a challenge. He provided sunflower seeds, demonstrated how to plant them and explained care of the seedlings. He then challenged everyone to see who could grow the tallest flowers!

Look at some of our results 🌻

He also provided the potted sunflower seedlings we sold at last year's Christmas market. How did yours go? We'd love to see pics if you have any ☺️

It was a special night at cubs last night.

We had the pleasure of investing our newest cub to our pack.
We're looking forward to sharing lots of adventures and wonder experiences with him and all of our youth members.

An important part of being invested as a member of the worldwide Scouting organisation is making your scout promise.

Youth members repeat their promise in front of their patrols, promising to themselves and the group that they'll do their best, help others and live by the Scout law.

Always striving to do your best, helping other people and being respectful of resources....not such a bad way to live don't you think? πŸ€”βšœοΈ

We had some extra special (and super cute 😍) visitors at cubs last night.

As an extension to our 'Responsible Pet Ownership' special interest area, Local wildlife carer Wyn stopped by with two of her foster babies.

We spent the first part of the evening chatting about the impact our pets can have on native animals and we discussed things we can all do to help our wildlife.

Then came the super cute surprise!! Wyn had arranged special permission to bring along Jonas and Kobi as an example to our cubs of exactly how important it is to check the pouches of animals who have been killed on our roads.

Did you know there's a 24hr emergency number you can call to help injured wildlife? This number and some top tips on how you can help are in our photos.

Thank you Wyn for sharing your time, photos, wonderful knowledge and of course Jonas and Kobi with our cubs.

On Sunday we had the privilege of celebrating with these two leaders of the future, as they received their Grey Wolf Awards.

This is the peak award for any Cub Scout and isn't achieved easily. Youth must be self motivated, hard working and dedicated to their goals to be eligible for this award.

Both of these Cubs should be very proud of themselves for their achievements!
