Volunteers from Wildcare and WIRES Weddin-Lachlan came together to help rescue cygnets trapped along Chinamans Dam in Young.

Sadly, one was injured from a dog attack and didn't make it, but the others were successfully returned to their parents after some R&R.

An unfortunate reminder to always keep pets on leads when near wildlife.

This cheeky echidna was stuck in a bit of a pickle!

A local resident in Royalla noticed her dogs were barking at something, only to discover they had encountered an echidna digging down into the soil under some pallets. Quickly thinking, she removed the the dogs and called our 24/7 Wildcare Helpline.

Our echidna coordinator, Diane, swung by to do a health check and to help decide the best plan for it. Upon arrival the echidna had started to move, crawling into a garden pot as another dog barking spooked it. With some difficulty, the echidna eventually obliged and Diane was able to check there were no injuries or illness present.

The echidna was safely relocated to spot to go about their day, a successful rescue overall!

Considering donating to support a local charity? πŸ€”
🦘 Wildcare Queanbeyan is entirely volunteer run, and operates solely on the generous donations of our local community and our own carers and rescuers.

πŸ¦‡ We cover an enormous area - 22,000sq kms spread from Bredbo to Darbys Falls, Morangarell to Crookwell 😲 - and have rescuers and carers throughout dedicating their time, skills and funds to rehabilitating sick, injured and orphaned native animals.

πŸ¦‰ We receive no government funding - we rely on donations alone.

🦎 Our dedicated volunteers drive hundreds of kilometres some weeks to rescue or return wildlife to their homes - all at their own cost.

β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή We pay for vet bills, medications and dressings, supplies, equipment and specialist foods. Vets do not provide free services to wildlife, so we have to pay for these services. If you have pets, you know these things are expensive!

πŸ’• We love what we do and we love making a difference for every one of these animals we help and who are in our care.

πŸ™ So please - consider a one off or monthly donation to our Public Fund. Every amount makes a difference and helps us achieve our mission to rescue, raise, rehabilitate and release sick, injured and orphaned native animals.

We need you - and so does our native wildlife. πŸͺ½

While you're settling in for the night, after a day of family and friends, chocolate, roast and celebration, spare a moment for our Wildcare volunteers who were on call for rescues, and carers who were feeding and nursing wildlife from illness and injuries, or closely monitoring their orphaned animals in care. β€οΈβ€πŸ©Ή

Wildlife doesn't take a break - and neither do our volunteers. These are everyday people with huge hearts and take time out of their lives to rescue, raise, rehabilitate and release sick, injured and orphaned native animals who would otherwise have no other option..

So today please take a moment to think of and thank a wildlife volunteer, and if you can, please consider donating to our public trust to help relieve the financial costs for Wildcare volunteers of wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. πŸ‘‰wildcare.com.au/donate

Remember the Little Corella we showed you last week that was rescued from a fishing line in a tree?

Well they've been made a full recovery after being in care with our bird coordinator, Maryanne. Check out this beautiful release! What a special moment. πŸ₯°πŸͺ½

Sunday lunch with the family isn't just a human thing - it extends to wild birds too! πŸͺΊπŸ¦œ

This Crimson Rosella was hit by a car and came into care for some rest and recovery, and today carer Lori spotted their family had come to say hello and even share some food!

The Rosella lost some tail feathers and can't fly well enough yet, but after some time, care and rest they'll gain enough strength to be back with their family once again. πŸ’•πŸ¦œ

What do these two birds have in common?

They were both survivors of irresponsible fishers along the Queanbeyan River.

Once again, Wildcare volunteers were able to come to the aid of native animals, caught in discarded line and tackle.

The swan was found with line trailing from their neck. Upon closer inspection, the line was attached to a three barbed hook, pierced through their neck. The Corella found in a tree, with a face covered in blood from trying to remove the line they were tangled in.

Both birds were taken into care, and look to make a full recovery - but native animals aren't always so lucky when it comes to entanglements.

If you're able to support our work, please consider donating to our public trust. Donations go towards paying for vet treatment, equipment and supplies to help native animals like the swan and corella here.

As you wake up this morning, some of you may be thinking, 'just another manic Monday'... but today is quietly a special day for the homes of many of our native animals.

Today is National Eucalypt Day. 🌳
Held annually on 23 March since 2014, National Eucalypt Day aims to raise awareness of eucalypts and celebrate the important place they hold for our native wildlife.

For wildlife, eucalyptus trees provide shelter, food and a home for many species - like Taz here, spotted in the evening a few days after release in a brown stringybark eucalyptus tree. πŸƒ
