Australia's federal marine park review is a rare opportunity to strengthen ocean protection at a national scale.

Our inshore and offshore NSW waters are in urgent need of protection and should be a stand out priority for government. Only about 4% of the Temperate East Marine Region is fully protected. This is a unique region with a mix of tropical and temperate species that stretches from the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, Queensland, all the way south to Bermagui, NSW, and out to Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands.

Boosting protection for the Temperate East Marine Region could help to fill major gaps in protection across southeast Australia and contribute to the nation's 30x30 target - to highly protect 30% of our marine waters. No-take marine sanctuaries are nature's nurseries—giving fish, reefs and marine life the chance to recover, grow and thrive for future generations.

NPA NSW calls on both the state and federal reviews to work together on a formal arrangement to design a connected marine sanctuary network which adequately protects a full range of habitats and the full life cycle of species, as our marine life do not recognise lines on maps.

Australia's dive industry has backed calls to expand no-fishing and no-drilling zones across the nation's oceans ahead of a federal review of marine parks.

NPA NSW wishes David Attenborough a very happy 100th Birthday and thanks him for all the inspiration and love of nature he has shared over his long and full life.
NPA has several events to celebrate this magnificent milestone, including the launch of our 30 x 30 campaign petition last night. Tonight you can join NPA Far South Coast Branch for a screening of David Gallan's new film. NPA Sydney - Northern Beaches also has an event, in Narrabeen.

Sir David Attenborough has released an audio message on Thursday thanking the public for the goodwill messages sent in the run-up to his 100th birthday

Wetlands and the plants and animals that depend on them are precious and vital for a functioning regional ecosystem. Environmental Flows must be restored and maintained in the Gwydir Wetlands to prevent disasters like this from happening.

Researchers in north-west NSW are wading through thick mud in an attempt to save hundreds of turtles after the NSW government decided to stop supplying water to the protected wetland.

A must see if you're in the area on 8th May.

The Far South Coast branch of the National Parks Association NSW is pleased to screen the premiere of Tallaganda at the new Headland Theatre on the occasion of Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday.

Tickets at www.headlandtheatre.com.au

Tallaganda features the conservation issues of the endangered greater glider, the academics who work to understand them and the activists seeking to protect their habitat in Tallaganda, Badja and Glenbog State Forests which are still under threat from industrial scale logging.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A panel with the filmmaker, David Gallan, glider researcher and videographer, Dr Ana Gracanin and veteran forest campaigner, Scott 'Sooty’ Daines.

This film uses innovative techniques with conventional and infrared cameras, as well as thermal cameras, to record the natural behaviour of a range of gliders and other nocturnal species. The recordings of glide sequences are memorable. Ana’s groundbreaking recordings from inside a greater glider den tree are also a film highlight.

The screening will also include a short featuring the wildlife around Tathra. The featured photo is of two local yellow bellied gliders emerging from their hollow at dusk.
