I Am Jack

I Am Jack I AM JACK has had a long and meaningful place in Monkey Baa’s repertoire. The themes of the story resonate with audiences wherever the show plays.

Since 1997, Monkey Baa Theatre Company been adapting Australia’s most well-loved stories for young people (aged 3-18), bringing them to the stage and touring them around the country, working with schools, arts and children’s organisations across remote, regional, rural and metropolitan Australia. We believe that young people should be valued and respected, and we aim to engage them in the performi

ng arts through the telling of stories that entertain, inspire and encourage a greater understanding of the world and their place within it. For more information about Monkey Baa’s work visit www.monkeybaa.com.au Jack is smart, funny and is being bullied. What starts as an off the cuff joke during a handball competition, soon turns into a set of circumstances whereby Jack is no longer safe in the playground. But with the use of self-expression through photography, Jack begins to make sense of his world; of his relationships with others, and most importantly, with himself. This one man show explores the often overlooked insidious taunting and teasing that bullies are so adept at inflicting on their victims and the roles that family and schools can play in responding. Jack takes us on a touching and sometimes comical journey as he moves from victim to victor. For 8-14 year olds. Primary School Years: 4 – 6 and High School Years: 7 & 8

General information

Monkey Baa has carved itself a reputation for producing award-winning, outstanding theatre that is relevant, vibrant, thought provoking and imaginative. As one of Australia’s largest touring companies, we have performed in just about every corner of the country across metropolitan, rural and remote Australia – and now taking our work internationally. Over one million young people have engaged with the company since 1998. We reside at the Lend Lease Darling Quarter Theatre – Australia’s first purpose built theatre dedicated to work for young people. The common thread weaving through all our works is the belief that young people’s interests are valued and respected. We strive to ensure that young people, wherever they are located and whatever their economic circumstances, have the opportunity to share in fantastic theatre experiences that reflect their own experience of life in this country.
