Great that we have such a progressive early child care centre in City of Prospect and my Ward-West Ward -in Prospect Council area! Well done Maddy!

Meet Maddylin – the heart of our kitchen

Maddylin has been part of our centre community since 2018, beginning on school placement for Certificate II in Kitchen Operations and growing into a permanent and highly valued member of our team.

As our accredited Food Safety Officer, Maddylin oversees menu planning and food safety compliance, working closely with the Eastern Health Authority to ensure meals are safe, nutritious, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all children. This work strongly aligns with NQS Quality Area 2 – Children’s Health and Safety, ensuring best practice in food safety, nutrition, and wellbeing.

With qualifications in kitchen operations, food safety supervision, and meal and menu planning for vulnerable people, Maddylin plays a critical role in supporting children’s health while also embedding learning opportunities around food, choice, and participation. Her work reflects our Philosophy of Education, which values wellbeing, inclusion, collaboration, and meaningful partnerships across all roles within the service.

Maddylin leads by example — supporting educators, understanding food avoidance and fussy eating, promoting inclusive practices, and creating opportunities for children to engage in food education through menu planning and cooking experiences. This work also supports NQS Quality Area 3 – Physical Environment and Quality Area 6 – Collaborative Partnerships, recognising the kitchen as an integral part of the learning environment and community.

We are incredibly grateful for the care, professionalism, and consistency Maddylin brings to our centre each day. Her contribution ensures food is not only nourishing, but safe, inclusive, and thoughtfully planned — supporting children to thrive.

Thank you, Maddy 💚

South Australian summers aren't for the faint-hearted - and with temperatures climbing towards 40°C in metropolitan Adelaide this week, it’s crucial we keep a close eye on pets and local wildlife. 🥵
In extreme heat, their welfare can change in an instant. Remember: if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them.
🐶 Keep dogs safe in hot weather by checking pavement temperature, ensuring shade and water, and never leaving them in cars.
🐱 Help cats stay cool by adding ice to their water, offering DIY cooling options, and keeping them indoors during peak heat.
🐰 Protect small pets by shading or moving their hutches, providing cooling cloths, and offering frozen bottles or treats.
🐨 Support wildlife in extreme heat by leaving out water, watching for signs of distress, and seeking help if an animal appears unwell.
Animals can't tell us that they're overheating with words, but they certainly do with their actions. If your pet is lethargic, panting excessively, drooling, or have developed bright red gums - seek immediate veterinary attention.
If you need urgent assistance for wildlife suffering heat stress, please call 📲
Fauna Rescue of SA: 8289 0896
Fauna Rescue of SA Koala Hotline: 1300 562 527

Let’s keep all creatures great and small safe this summer. ☀️

These easy steps can mean the difference between life and death for animals in heatwaves. Follow our tips to ensure pets and wildlife stay safe and cool.

Lovely idea Lucy Hood MP to rename your award to honour the memory of John Giatras for the 2025 John Giatras Community Kindness Award for Prospect Primary.

Kindness doesn’t cost a thing. But its impact is priceless.

Congratulations Liam on being awarded the 2025 John Giatras Community Kindness Award for Prospect Primary.

Thank you for going above and beyond to show kindness towards others, both at your school and in the wider community.

A worthy winner of this award that I renamed in honour of our dearly missed friend and local barber, John, who was the epitome of community kindness.

Why I am a Council Member

Responsibility only taken for posts /comments/images originating from Cr Kristina Barnett but not for posts/comments/images by any other person.

---------

Many people have asked me why I choose to run for Council again, and why I’d want to be a councillor. It’s an important question.Community involvement is something I value deeply. I consider it a privilege to work on your behalf for the betterment of residents, business, associations and visitors in West Ward and for all citizens across our city. I can use my 28 plus years of local government experience and knowledge to continue to play a positive role in strengthening our City of Prospect and our neighbourhoods.

I am not a member of a political party and not interested in using Council as a stepping stone to a political career. I retired from the workforce halfway through my current councillor term in 2016. I am enjoying my retirement and having more time to represent Council and take part in community activities, do research on Council matters and community submissions. I am working hard to improve Council and State Government legislation and policies on planning (especially design) , environment and heritage.
