I accepted God’s forgiveness and gave my life to Jesus Christ ten months ago. Even though I was in prison on that day and am still in prison now, I can feel the changes of having God in my life, like realising something I was searching for my whole life exists and God loves me. – Ally*

Inside prisons across Australia and the Pacific, men and women like Ally are searching for hope. With the encouragement of Crossroads mentors, they can study the Bible by correspondence and discover the life Jesus has for them.

“Open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” John 4:35

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6:26

Will you pray with us that men and women in prison might not be defined by their past but be free to discover how valuable they are in the eyes of Christ?

Thank you so much for finding the time to be my mentor. I became a Christian when I was 54. It was the best decision I ever made in my life.

Waking up every day with God as my first thought gives me assurance of a happy day that I can share with other people, so I hope I can share this with you. God bless you. – Roger* Crossroads Student - Australia

Roger’s choice to accept Jesus into his heart not only transformed his own life but brings light into the lives of others in prison every day.

“And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life.” 1 John 5:11-12

We’re continually thankful to God for the men and women who volunteer their time to serve Crossroads students in Australia and across the Pacific Islands.

Whether as a mentor, office volunteer, committee member, prayer warrior or prison liaison volunteer, each person dedicates their time and skills to be there for men and women who are often isolated and alone.

This National Volunteer Week we praise God for his faithful people, committed to fostering Christ-centred relationships that change lives.

Already this year nearly 700 men and women in prison have started studying the Bible with Crossroads. For many this is the first time they have encountered the Bible.

Will you pray with us for willing hearts and changed lives?

And take a look here at what happened in April.

Thanks be to God for Kennedy and Cornie, our new volunteer Crossroads Liaison Officers in PNG. They visit the correctional facilities to support and encourage students and invite other men and women to start learning about Jesus through the Bible.

Cornie visits Gili Gili every Wednesday, while Kennedy is connecting at Buimo. Please pray with us that their ministry might be effective in these places.

Praise God that his word is bringing light and changing lives, even in the darkness of prison.

I travel to strange places
There is fear and darkness
And then…
A light, a beacon, a call.
“I am here, you are safe”
The darkness flees
The fear fades
God’s light shines brightly.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” – John 8:6-7

The simple act of writing a letter can bring Christ’s grace and mercy where they’re needed most.

He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.” – Luke 8:24-25

Will you pray with us that Crossroads students will see and know Jesus amid life’s challenges, just as the disciples did after the storm?
