Tropical Cyclone Koji has developed as a category 2 tropical cyclone and is forecast to continue a southerly track crossing the coast between Townsville and Bowen early Sunday morning.

The Tropical Cyclone Warning Zone extends from Innisfail to Mackay including Townsville, Bowen, Proserpine and Whitsundays Islands.

Intensive rainfall and damaging to locally destructive winds are forecast from later tonight continuing over the weekend.

People between Ayr and Townsville including Bowen and Airlie Beach must complete preparations now and prepare to take shelter in a safe place.

Residents further south to Mackay should take all necessary precautions now and listen to the next advice.

šŸ„ Our hospitals and health facilities in affected areas, particularly the Bowen and Proserpine emergency departments, remain open and staff are well prepared for the severe weather event.

ā˜Žļø Always call Triple Zero (000) in an emergency. For non urgent health advice 13HEALTH (13 43 25 84) is available 24 hours a day. 13HEALTH is a confidential phone service where you can talk to a registered nurse who can provide health information and assess symptoms.

And remember, if it's flooded, forget it. āš ļø

Happy International Paramedics Day to our dedicated team in teal, our colleagues interstate and overseas! šŸš‘šŸ©ŗšŸ’š

At the QAS, our paramedics provide a wide range of care for Queenslanders – whether it be lifesaving interventions to the critically unwell, educating our communities at events or being the reassuring face in scary moments – our paramedics go above and beyond each and every day.

Whatever role they play, we thank our paramedics for providing the best possible care for patients across Queensland.

Today on International Paramedics Day we celebrate the staff within our service as well as our ambulance colleagues around the world who put up their hand to help those in need.

Our paramedics work across a wide range of roles, from the frontline treating and reassuring patients, in our clinical hub and operations centres, in workforce planning and logistics, or supervising operations and events.

They’re a major cog in a machine that includes our Emergency Medical Dispatchers (EMDs), Patient Transport Officers, Mental Health Clinicians, Flight Paramedics, Retrieval Services Queensland (RSQ) and our QAS Nurses and Doctors and many others– all working together to ensure the best care for our patients.

It’s a career where no two days are the same, and we thank all our staff across the many important roles that intertwine to put our patients first!
