Breakaway Youth Hope for Life We are based in Melbourne Victoria serving the Banyule, Darebin and Whittlesea regions.

To provide a program of outdoor recreation for disadvantaged young people, primarily 10-16 year olds, for the purpose of improving their lifestyle by providing alternatives, which will give them a sense of achievement and self-esteem. To achieve these aims in an atmosphere of support within a non-threatening environment, by providing sound leadership demonstrating faith-based principles.

❄️ Weekend Camp | Snow, Slurpees & a whole lot of fun! 🏂

This weekend was all about getting out, trying something new and making the most of whatever came our way!

After an early start, we headed up to Lake Mountain for a morning of tobogganing and snow play. Despite the warmer weather and limited snow, the young people absolutely made the most of it! Racing down the slopes, building snowmen, having snowball fights and generally finding every possible way to have fun! ❄️😂

After working up an appetite, we headed down to Marysville for a BBQ lunch and some time running around and playing games in the sunshine. It was one of those simple camp moments where everyone could just relax, have a laugh and enjoy being together.

One of the biggest highlights was seeing the young people adapt so well when plans changed. When the snow didn't work out on Saturday, there was no drama. We changed the plan, got up early Sunday and gave it another go. They were ready to get moving, keen to make the most of the day and surprisingly happy to be wherever the group was together.

We also saw some great moments of young people stepping up, taking initiative and encouraging each other. From helping welcome our newest group to coming up with ideas for celebrating birthdays, it was heartening to see them beginning to take ownership of the Breakaway community they're part of. ❤️

The snow was great, but the best part of camp was seeing friendships grow, confidence build and young people simply enjoying being together.

That's what Breakaway is all about. 💙

❄️ Winter Camp 2026 ❄️

Our Winter Camp was packed with adventure, laughter, challenges and plenty of time together. 🙌

From feeding animals on the farm and getting stuck into games, to bushwalking, swimming, catching the ferry to Raymond Island and spotting 27 koalas 🐨 - there was never a dull moment!

One of the highlights was seeing connections from State Youth Games continue beyond the event. We were excited to welcome two young people from Bairnsdale Baptist Youth for dinner and games, giving everyone the chance to reconnect and have some fun together. ❤️

Throughout the week, our young people were encouraged to try new things, step outside their comfort zones and encourage each other along the way. Whether it was tackling a bushwalk, getting into the water, trying something new or joining in a game, there were plenty of moments of growth.

And of course, the drive home wouldn't have been complete without a good sing-along playlist! 🎶

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteer team for making the week possible. From cooking and cleaning to leading activities and encouraging our young people, we couldn't do it without you.

Five days. New experiences. New friendships. Plenty of laughs. Lots of memories. ❤️

🏆 State Youth Games 2026 🏆

We've been a little quiet on socials lately while we've been busy behind the scenes with our Auction Dinner, but that doesn't mean things have been quiet for our young people!

We've got a few adventures to catch you up on, starting with State Youth Games. 👇

What happens when you take a group of young people, give them the chance to try new sports, and put them in the middle of a huge community of other young people?

A lot more than just sport. ❤️

Our young people headed to State Youth Games during the King's Birthday weekend in June, where they got to try sports and activities that aren't part of their usual weekend.... and they absolutely got stuck into it!

But the biggest highlights weren't necessarily the results. They were the friendships. Meeting new people, hanging out between games, sharing laughs, taking photos, exchanging details and cheering each other on.

For many of our young people, it was an opportunity to experience a positive community outside the environments they normally know and to see that there are places where they can belong.

And the best part? Those friendships didn't end when the Games did. Some of the young people we met even joined us for dinner and games during our Winter Camp a few weeks later. 🙌

That's what makes experiences like State Youth Games so valuable.

It's not just about sport. It's about belonging, confidence, friendship and showing young people what's possible.

A huge thank you to our volunteers, supporters and everyone involved in making the weekend happen. 💙

To our event sponsors, table organisers, donors, volunteers, helpers, bidders and every guest who joined us, we simply couldn’t have done it without you. For those who were there, our totaliser accidentally included one amount twice, meaning the figure displayed was higher than the final amount raised. Nevertheless, it is still an extraordinary result and a reflection of the incredible generosity of our Breakaway Youth community.

Your generosity means so much more than one incredible evening. Every donation, auction bid, sponsorship and gift-in-kind helps us continue supporting young people through Breakaway’s programs. The impact of your generosity will continue to ripple far beyond the auction room and into the lives of the young people and families we serve.

💙 A Breakaway Youth Story 💙

Before attending Breakaway Youth, one young person described themselves as "wild and uncontrollable."

School was a struggle. Confidence was low. Positive influences were hard to find.

Everything changed when they joined Breakaway.

At camp, they discovered adventure, friendship and a community that believed in them. From outdoor activities and campfires to new experiences and trusted mentors, Breakaway became a place where they could grow, learn and simply enjoy being a kid.

"The leaders were the best. They always had time to talk to me and helped me with my behaviour."

One camp in particular, what we now call Winter Camp, became a turning point.

It wasn't just the activities that made the difference. It was being surrounded by people who cared, encouraged and believed in their potential.

Looking back, they shared:

"Breakaway was the best thing that ever happened to me. It changed my life."

Stories like this remind us that a caring adult, a safe environment and a chance to belong can make all the difference in a young person's life.

This year, our Auction Dinner will feature something a little different.

For many years, Simon "Macca" McEvoy was part of the fabric of this event. His generosity, humour and unwavering support helped make the Breakaway Youth Auction Dinner what it is today.

Earlier this year, we lost Macca, and this year's event won't be quite the same without him.

To honour his memory and his incredible contribution to Breakaway Youth, we're introducing the inaugural **Macca's Prize**.

What is it?

Well, that's part of the mystery.

What we can tell you is that it's a special prize with a special story behind it, and we'll be sharing more on the night as we celebrate Macca's legacy at Breakaway Youth.
