Koorie Families as First Educators (KFFE) is a program that helps families in community through the challenges of raising a child.

Supporting families or carers with Aboriginal children aged 0 to 5 (including pregnant mums and partners), V***A's Koorie educators help to embed confidence in parenting skills, guide parents to help young people grow up strong in their culture and give everyday tips to support learning and development.

A three day offering of the program will be running from 8-10 July at the Moe Neighbourhood House for mob in Gippsland, KFFE is also offered at V***A's Preston office.

As Reconciliation Week comes to an end, we celebrate Mabo Day!

Today we reflect on Eddie Koiki Mabo's extraordinary journey and pay our respects to him and all who continue to walk in his footsteps. This day commemorates his great life and legacy as a land rights activist whose 10 year campaign led to the historic 1992 Mabo High Court decision.

34 years ago today, the decision legally acknowledged Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' continuous connection and rights to Country, dismantling the lie of Terra Nullius and paving the way for Native Title law as we know it today.

June is International Pride Month. 🏳‍🌈

This month (and every day) we recognise and celebrate our Rainbow Mob, acknowledging their challenges and standing in solidarity with their fight for equality, acceptance and human rights. ❤️💛🖤

Although in Australia our largest LGBTIQA+ community events occur in the summer months, we celebrate International Pride Month in recognition of historical activism and the ongoing fight against discrimination.

On 14 April, Link-Up Victoria took ten Stolen Generations survivors to Yorta Yorta Country for a Welcome Back to Country Reunion.

The group were welcomed back to Country by Uncle Ralph Hume, Yorta Yorta Cultural Officer at the Dharnya Centre, who supported the Stolen Generations over the three days to reclaim their identity as Yorta Yorta.

During the trip, they spent time listening to stories of Elders, family groups, Country and community, and visited places of significance. Two survivors, who met for the first time, discovered they were cousins. Other survivors found the resting places of their mothers, grandparents and great grandparents, finally bringing some peace of mind, knowing where family they had been removed from rested.

The reunion highlighted the important work that Link-Up does by reuniting Stolen Generations survivors with family, community, Country and culture.

This year the theme was ‘Together, We’re Staunch: Our Culture, Our Power’ and featured keynote speakers Sue-Anne Hunter and Miss Kaninna.

Thank you to the Koorie Youth Council for organising this deadly opportunity for our next generation of staunch leaders.

National Reconciliation Week starts today!

This year's theme 'All In' calls for every Australian to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation. Advancing the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is not solely our responsibility, true reconciliation happens when we all work to make change.

On the anniversary of the 1967 referendum marking the start of Reconciliation Week, V***A remains committed to embedding self-determination and empowering the next generation of Aboriginal leaders to grow up with strength and pride in their culture.

If you want to be all in this Reconciliation Week, support us by hosting a Morning Tea for Culture: https://morningtea.vacca.org/
