Nominations still open for the 2026 College Medal! 🏅

Do you know someone who has made an outstanding and major contribution to the specialty of intensive care medicine?

Each year, all CICM Fellows are invited to reflect on the achievements of colleagues who have shaped our specialty through their dedication, advocacy and clinical excellence. The College Medal provides an opportunity to formally acknowledge these contributions and celebrate those whose work has advanced intensive care medicine, the College and the wider community.

To nominate a Fellow, you need to:
1. Have the support of a current CICM Board Member
2. Complete the nomination form here: https://loom.ly/Rx-RAx0
3. Send the nominee’s CV or relevant documents to: [email protected]

Have you been on extended leave from work?

Refresh-ICU is a one-day course held at Concord Hospital, Sydney on 16 November. This course is aimed at CICM Fellows and Trainees who are returning from having taken over 3 months of leave.

The focus is on helping clinicians transition back to the workplace, with interactive small-group learning and a focus on mini-simulation in a low-stress, zero-stakes environment. Clinical topics will include troubleshooting pacing, difficult ventilation, and airway emergencies. Non-clinical topics will include parenting and work, lactation needs, and communication skills.

Open to all CICM Fellows and Trainees, these interactive sessions provide a valuable platform to deepen clinical knowledge in ultrasound and echocardiography, engage the USIG community, and build strong professional networks. Presenting units will lead each session, selecting their own compelling cases or clinical topics of choice. Among 249 Australian and New Zealand patients receiving ECPR after cardiac arrest, favourable 6-month survival was 21% with shockable rhythms vs 11% with non-shockable rhythms. Interestingly, the non-shockable group had more witnessed arrests and shorter low-flow times. Initial rhythm may matter more than we think.

🚨Don’t miss the deadline for OPEN ICU’s upcoming opportunities!

A reminder for those interested in contributing to the development of OPEN ICU that the deadline for submissions to join the committee or submit an idea for the next project is this Friday, 28 August 2026.

OPEN-ICU is a new collaborative network designed to provide intensive care clinicians with opportunities to participate in research, develop experience, and become part of a growing research community. The network is open to clinicians from all intensive care backgrounds, including nursing, allied health, and medicine, and is being supported by CICM and the ANZICS Clinical Trials Group.

APPLY NOW: DTRP Regional Champions needed

As part of the recently launched Dual Training Recognition Process (DTRP), CICM and ANZCA are seeking expressions of interest from supervisors of training (SOTs), rotational supervisors (ROTs), and education officers (EOs) to take on the important role of DTRP regional champion.

As a DTRP regional champion, you will play a key role in supporting dual trainees within your region. Regional champions will be expected to:

➡️ Comprise a strong working knowledge of both CICM and ANZCA training requirements and provide guidance to dual trainees on progressing successfully through the DTRP
➡️ Work closely with local ANZCA and CICM supervisors of training to support trainees in meeting the requirements of both training programs
➡️ Facilitate access to relevant ANZCA, CICM, and DPA contacts to assist in resolving training matters related to the DTRP.

Are you a CICM Trainee or Fellow located in Victoria?

Make sure to register for our VIC Trainee Presentation on Wednesday 9 September, hosted by St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne and OPEN ICU.

This will be the second of two VIC Trainee Presentations on for this year.

Trainees will deliver an oral presentation of the findings of their completed, or ongoing projects before final submission. Come along and support your colleagues. It’s also a great opportunity to watch the presentations if you’re still working on your own.

If you are a Fellow, we appreciate your presence to make this an approved forum for Trainees to present their formal project.
