This September, the Servant of the Servants of God, Pope Leo XIV, has asked us to pray for care and just use of water. As we reflect on this prayer request, let us bring to mind how we, as custodians of our environment care for our natural surroundings and water.
The Church has granted a plenary indulgence, with the required condition being to pray with the Pope, fostering spiritual unity among the faithful and aligning our prayer with the broader needs of the Body of Christ. We pray for the Holy Father's intentions because, through honouring the Pope, we honour Christ in his One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.
A note on gaining this indulgence: because indulgences are distributed by the authority of the Church, praying for the Holy Father's intentions symbolises your unity with the Pope and the universal Church.
Indulgences are a gift from the Church to the faithful, and in exchange, the Church asks that we pray with her. You can fulfil this requirement by praying one Our Father and one Hail Mary. A Glory Be is encouraged, though not required
