Help us tackle the large accumulation of marine debris behind the dunes and along the beach at the eastern end of Cape Bridgewater Bay.

Organised by Beach Patrol 3280–3284, with support from Glenelg Hopkins CMA, Parks Victoria and Friends of the Great South West Walk, this clean-up is a great opportunity to make a real difference to our coastline and enjoy one of the region’s most spectacular walks. 🌿🌊

🚶 What to expect:
• A beautiful 2 km walk in and out
• A physically demanding half-day clean-up
• Marine debris removal from the beach and behind the dunes
• A chance to see the shipping containers stranded on the coast since 2013
• A motorised wheelbarrow will help transport collected rubbish back to the car park
• 🍽️ Lunch provided!

Appropriate precautions will be in place to help keep volunteers and wildlife safe.

September is Save the Koala Month, and South West Environmental Education Inc. (SWEE) is inviting local artists of all ages to get creative and celebrate one of Australia’s most iconic animals! 🇦🇺💚

Create your own Koala-themed poster on an A4 or A3 sheet of paper.

📍 Drop your entry off at Narrawong Post Office, or contact SWEE to arrange collection.

🏆 Entries close 18 September!

The most original and creative entries will be selected for public display throughout September, helping spread the word about koala conservation and the importance of protecting their habitat. 🌿🐨

🌿 The 2026 Victorian Landcare Forum is just around the corner!

From 31 August to 2 September, landcarers, environmental professionals, experts and community members from across Victoria will come together in Pakenham to share ideas, experiences and practical knowledge.

With more than 40 speakers, networking opportunities, concurrent sessions, an event dinner and a choice of fascinating field trips, it's a fantastic opportunity to connect with others working to create healthier landscapes and stronger communities.

A Greater Crested Tern in Portland has tested positive for H5 Avian Influenza.

The high pathogenicity avian influenza H5N1 strain (H5 bird flu) has been detected in Victoria.

A single greater crested tern was found in Portland and was reported on 27 July 2026.

We know many Victorians care deeply about our wildlife and may be concerned about what this means for native bird populations.

If you encounter sick or dead birds or wildlife, do not touch them. Instead, record the exact location, take photos if it is safe to do so, and report it online or by calling the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

Early reports help wildlife and animal health experts monitor disease activity and determine where action may be needed.

Your observations can make a real difference in helping us understand and respond to impacts on Victoria's wildlife.

Be part of a community effort to improve biodiversity and create important habitat for local wildlife at this year’s National Tree Day planting event on Sunday 26 July.

More than 400 native and indigenous trees and shrubs will be planted, helping to provide food and shelter for koalas, cockatoos, possums and a range of other local species.

This planting is also the first step in future biodiversity, wildlife corridor and open space renewal projects that will strengthen habitat connectivity across Glenelg Shire.

🌱 Grants still open: Apply for Healthy Cities Landcare Grants 2026! 🌱

There’s still time to bring your community project to life. Bupa Australia and Landcare Australia are offering grants of up to $25,000 to support urban and peri-urban communities to connect people to nature and restore local environments across Australia.

Looking for a little inspiration? Last year, grant recipient Friends of Kororoit Creek used their support to transform their local area into a thriving habitat corridor - planting thousands of indigenous species, restoring biodiversity, all while strengthening community connections.

Now it’s your time to get involved and make a difference in your local area. Previous grant recipients are welcome to apply, so don’t miss your chance - the deadline is 13 July 2026, 5pm AEST.

The WIRES National Grants Program has two free webinars coming up for wildlife rescue organisations, carers, researchers and conservation groups interested in applying for funding.

Join the WIRES team on 24 June or 30 June for an informative session covering grant writing essentials, program funding priorities, eligibility criteria and how to submit a strong application.

There will also be time for Q&A, giving first time applicants and returning grantees the chance to ask questions and feel more confident in the process.
