Introduction to the Japanese Art of Floral Arranging on Saturday 24 October for an intimate, hands on introduction to Ikebana — the centuries-old Japanese art of floral arrangement 🌿

Guided by Daniel, a trained Sogetsu Ikebana teacher, you’ll be introduced to the quiet and contemplative world of Ikebana, exploring line, balance, asymmetry and negative space.

Daniel studied Ikebana at the Sogetsu Ikebana School in Tokyo, where he lived for 10 years. During this time, he gained his teaching qualification and developed a deep connection to the art and philosophy of Ikebana. He is now a member of the Sydney/NSW Sogetsu Association.

During the workshop, Daniel will guide you through the three principal lines of Ikebana — SHIN, SOE + HIKAE — before inviting you to select from a collection of seasonal blooms and create your own arrangement.

Each guest will work with their own Ikebana kit to take home, including two ceramic Ikebana vessels, kenzan metal floral frog and floral secateurs. Aprons and ceremonial matcha will also be provided.

The Annual Scale Model Expo is on again, in the July School holidays. A fantastic event for the whole family to come and visit!!!
On display will be a wide variety of models with everything from, radio-controlled ships and aircraft, period ships, and a working railway. You will be able to view models constructed of timber, fibreglass and resin. Plastic scale models will include aircraft both modern jets and old warbirds, armoured fighting vehicles, science fiction, ships, figures and so much more…
As is previous years we will have vendors attending, who will carry everything from basic starter kits for the budding new modeller, modelling tools and paints, through to advanced kits and accessories for skilled builders.
There is a Gold Coin entry fee collected at the door, of which goes towards supporting Hastings Little Wishes, here in Port Macquarie.
Hastings Little Wishes supports families in the Port Macquarie – Hastings region, granting wishes to children who have a serious illness, rare disease, chronic and complex conditions that impact families for a prolonged period of time.
The Panthers Club, Main Auditorium in Bay Street, will be hosting the Expo on Saturday the 11th (9.00am – 5.00pm) and Sunday the 12th (9.00 – 3.00pm) of July.
