Today there are 1.3 million men and women in Lions Clubs International, or LCI, in 205 countries and geographic areas, conducting vision and health screenings, building parks, supporting eye hospitals, awarding scholarships, assisting youth and providing humanitarian help in time of local and international disasters, to name just a few activities in which we are involved. There are five Lions Club
s within the Port Macquarie-Hastings Local Government Area. They are Port Macquarie, Wauchope, Lake Cathie/Bonny Hills, Laurieton and this one, Port Macquarie-Tacking Point Lions Club. We all joined Lions to make a difference in our society - to provide help, either physically or financially, where and when it is needed in our community. The Port Macquarie-Tacking Point Lions Club Inc. With a membership, as at March 2017, of 44 ladies and gentlemen, the club is very active undertaking fund-raising activities and practical projects in the community. In recent years we have:
- laid 'softfall' rubber on the Children's Ward play area at Port Macquarie Base Hospital
- built the 'Wandering Path' for the Base Hospital Dementia Ward
- laid 'softfall' rubber matting in the playground of the ASPECT school
- for 4 years we have supported CanTeen kids en route to their annual camp by supplying lunch
- undertaken grounds maintenance for the Women's Refuge
- painted a 'foster home'
- sponsored/funded a number of modified bicycles for disabled children through the Port Macquarie branch of Technical Aid for the Disabled
- conducted a free monthly dinner for residents of Rotary House at the Base Hospital
- built a 'Fitness Station' at Oxley Beach , Windmill Hill and Rocky Beach Lookout
- demolished and rebuilt Gaol Point and installed a memorial path and seating overlooking Town Beach with Port Macquarie Lions Club
- conducted frequent BBQs and other fund-raising activities and
- 100% of all funds raised have been donated to needy individuals or organisations within the Port Macquarie local government area and to Lions Australia foundations such as the Childhood Cancer Research Foundation, Australian Lions Foundation, and Lions Eye Health Program. Our annual donations average some $35,000.
