Very interesting story 'Identity of unknow soldier uncovered after 80 years'.

A soldier killed in WWII during the Kokoda Battle has finally been been identified, more than 80 years after his death, with his family saying that keeping his memory alive "meant the world."

Port Macquarie RSL sub-Branch will be holding a service to mark Vietnam Veterans' Day. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the battle of Long Tan. It will be held from 11am at the Cenotaph in town square. All are welcome.

It is with great sadness that I wish to announce the passing of RSL Auxiliary member and long time coordinator Joan Rose. A service will be held at Innes Gardens Memorial Park on Friday the 31st of July at 2:30pm.

It is with great sadness that I wish to announce the passing of one of Port Macquarie RSL sub-Branch's final surviving WWII veteran Alfred 'Roy' Boyle. NAMBUCCA HEADS CENOTAPH RECEIVES THE RESPECT IT DESERVES
Great to join the Nambucca Heads RSL Sub Branch team this morning to celebrate their successful application for $8,000 of Federal Funding to restore their local cenotaph to its former glory.

War memorials and cenotaphs are more than just bricks and mortar, they are the physical memory of our local heroes and a place to reflect and appreciate how far we have come as a nation as a result of their sacrifices.

Unfortunately, we have seen in recent years a disgusting disregard for our veterans and their families through the rise of vandalism of monuments like the Nambucca Heads Cenotaph.

Over the past couple of years, this proud symbol of veteran sacrifice and service in Nambucca Heads has been defaced multiple times. The level of disrespect and contempt that shows for those who have served our country cannot be underestimated. To now see that the much needed and much deserved funding has been awarded that will cover the necessary work for repairs and lighting upgrades is a fantastic result, and a great step towards its preservation for future generations.
