What is the education situation in Nepal?
For many girls living in remote communities across Nepal, education is not guaranteed.
Poverty, lack of access and financial pressure force many children to leave school early.
Numa* grew up in a family of 8 children where there was little food and no money for education. While her older siblings never had the chance to study, Numa fought to stay in school because she believed education could change her future.
She carried stone and cement at a construction site while trying to continue her studies and dreamed of becoming a nurse.
But after Grade 10, she could no longer afford her education.
Without further schooling or opportunity, she became vulnerable to abu$e, rejection and
explo!tation.
Eventually, she travelled alone toward the border carrying what she described as “her own pain and sorrow.”
At the border, trained female surveillance staff intercepted her before tr4ffickers could explo!t her vulnerability.
She was taken to safety, received counselling and slowly rebuilt her life.
Today, Numa works at that same border helping protect other vulnerable girls before tr4ffickers can reach them.
