Artist Talk – Stories Behind the Artworks - On Tomorrow!!!

Join us tomorrow, Sunday 14 June at 11:15am for a special artist talk with Thumbprint artists.

Our current exhibition brings together a diverse group of artists, each sharing deeply personal stories through their work.

One story that resonates strongly within our coastal community is Julie Bignell’s series, which explores memory, both what we remember clearly and what we carry without full understanding. At the heart of Julie’s work is a powerful family story connected to the Port MacDonnell jetty.

As a child, Julie’s older brother tragically drowned at the jetty. While she has no clear memory of him, the sense of loss and fragments of that day have stayed with her. Through her artwork, she explores those ‘non-memories’, feelings that linger at the edges of our minds and shape who we become.

Displayed alongside her artworks is the original newspaper article recounting the event, grounding her pieces in both personal experience and local history.
This exhibition is a compelling reminder of how art can connect place, memory and story, and why exhibitions like this hold such meaning for our community.

Julie will speak at the artist talk about her experience, including her research process and the development of her work, along with other artists and their memories.

📍 Join us at the artist talk tomorrow at 11:15am to experience these stories.
