The Centre for Women's Safety and Wellbeing CEO, Alison Evans yesterday took to the media to talk about what needs to be done to address the high rates of violence against women and children in our community.

We wholeheartedly agree. 🫢 Our GROW program is but one small boat in a sea of services doing their best to support women affected by violence.

Our GROW program is not government funded, which is why we run some of our other services to raise funds, and ask our facebook community to help us too.

If you can, please visit The Centre for Women's Health and Wellbeing's page and show your support.

And if you can donate, or share our appeal for funding to support women fleeing violence, we'd be so grateful πŸ‘‰https://shoutforgood.com/fundraisers/Funds4GROW πŸ™

Our CEO Alison Evans addressed the media yesterday to talk about what more needs done to reduce the high rates of violence against women and children in our community.

Despite progress we have not succeeded in significantly reducing violence against women and children. While increases in reporting may be due to women feeling more supported to come forward and seek help, we must reduce the prevalence.

If we are to significantly reduce violence against women and children funding must be sufficient to take up the evidence effectively in practice and policy.

We must have a safe and well-funded family and domestic violence system that safeguards victim-survivors and prevents further harm and domestic violence homicide. Every agency – judiciary, police, health, education and community services – must be pulling in the same direction.

We must have well-funded specialist family and domestic violence services to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of adult and child victim survivors during and after crisis. No victim survivor should be left waiting to get the support that they desperately need.

We must have well-funded and timely interventions and programs to support people using violence to change their behaviours.

We must have pathways into housing for victim-survivors who still face the impossible choice of violence or homelessness.

We must fully fund criminal and civil law responses and the responses of the entire family and domestic violence system to respond safely and effectively to coercive and controlling behaviours not just incidents of physical violence.

It is urgent and it is necessary.

We owe no less to victim-survivors and their families.

πŸ’œHelp a Family Rebuild Their Life After Fleeing Violence πŸ’œ

Violence against women is at an all-time high in Australia. In our local community, it’s even more heartbreaking β€” we have the highest rates of family and domestic violence in WA.

Since 2020, our GROW program (formerly the PLAN project) has helped countless women escape violence and start again. We’ve supported women to find safe housing, build job skills, strengthen mental health, and become financially independent. We’re there every step of the way.

But for every woman we help, many more are still living in fear.

✨ You can be a shining light of hope.

Your tax-deductible donation today can give a woman fleeing abuse the tools she needs to rebuild her life β€” and give her children a safe, happy future.

πŸ’” Tara’s* story is one of many. A young mum of four, Tara grew up believing violence was normal. With no support, she fled her abuser and, by chance, found our GROW program. We helped her get a driver’s licence, write a resume, find work β€” and most importantly, believe in herself.

β€œIn the first 3 months, I built confidence. I felt confident to leave my relationship… I never thought I’d be where I am now. I’m thriving.” – Tara

Now Tara and her children are safe and thriving. But her story could have ended very differently β€” and many more women still need that same support.

πŸ™ Can you help us reach more women like Tara?

Every dollar you give can provide something essential:
πŸ’œ $20 = phone credit to call for help
πŸ’œ $50 = food voucher for a mum feeding her kids
πŸ’œ $90 = a counselling session to start healing
πŸ’œ $100 = clothes for job interviews
πŸ’œ $200 = kitchen/home essentials to set up a safe new life.

Together, we can help more women walk away from fear β€” and into a future filled with hope.

From all of us at Bridging the Gap β€” and from brave women like Tara β€” thank you πŸ’œ

Tiesha and Sue, our wonderful Parent Pathways mentors, celebrated International Women's Day doing what they do best - empowering women to plan their future.

They were at the International Women's Day event at the Champion Centre in Seville Grove, sharing how we can support parents of children under 6.

Parent Pathways is all about empowering parents. And Tiesha and Sue are just two of the supportive mentors who empower parents every day.

We have so many amazing women who work at BTG, who all work tirelessly to empower women in our community. πŸ™Œ
