Long Point parkrun #12 — The “Rain, Hail & Thunder” Edition 🌧️⚡❄️

A massive congratulations to everyone who turned up this morning. Honestly, you deserve a medal just for showing up. We had rain, we had hail, we had thunder… at one point it felt like Mother Nature was trying to cancel us, but Long Point parkrunners don’t scare that easily. We stared into the storm and the storm blinked.

Huge appreciation to our incredible volunteers who stood out there in the wild weather with smiles, scanners, stopwatches, cameras and heroic levels of waterproofing. You’re the reason this event happens every week. And yes - we really need more people to step up in the weeks ahead.

Now… about those PBs. With that monster tailwind on the way out, everyone was on track for a PB — you were practically being pushed along like shopping trolleys in a storm. But only nine of you had the strength, grit, and sheer stubbornness to fight back into that headwind and actually bring it home. Absolute champions.

Milestone time — and the weather couldn’t have been more poetic:
🎉 Jim Hailstone — 400 parkruns!
Given today’s weather, this feels extremely on‑brand. If anyone was going to hit a major milestone during a storm, it was Jim.

🎉 Denise Watkins — 350 parkruns!
Another huge achievement — rain, hail, thunder, nothing stops Denise either.

Well done to everyone who braved the elements, splashed through the puddles, and made Long Point parkrun unforgettable today. Same time next week… hopefully with slightly less wind & rain and a few new faces volunteering.

Get out there, chase your PB, then once you’re done support the team by scanning the barcodes of everyone behind you.

SHOUT OUT to the amazing Long Point parkrun community.
We need a couple of you to stand up and join this wonderful team of volunteers.
We're looking for a couple of TOKEN LEGENDS for this Saturday. One to Congratulate all our finishers & award them their finish token and a couple of others to scan for us.
Even if one of you speedsters🏎🏎 doing SUB 20 would like to run then join us to scan in everyone else, we'd love to have you join your fellow parkrun Volunteer Legends.
