www.tenderfunerals.com.au Positive funeral care experiences assist grief, loss and social isolation.

Tender Funerals is a not-for-profit funeral service delivering personalised, meaningful and affordable funerals, ensuring those experiencing financial hardship are able to access these critical services. Tender Funerals is reimagining the way in which we deal with death by empowering communities to make informed choices at every step of the process. Tender Funerals is an initiative of the Port Ke

mbla Community Project which will offer a funeral service that is affordable and highly personalised, to support healthy bereavement. A small number of big companies dominate the $900 million a year funeral industry and the average cost of a funeral in Australia is around $7000. Currently, people on a low income have great difficulty paying for a funeral, often going into significant debt as a result. Yet the availability of low cost funerals remains limited, particularly in rural and regional areas. This is despite the fact that the end-of-life procedures are an essential service that should be available to all, regardless of income. Tender Funerals will offer affordable and flexible services and a transparent fee structure, to minimise the financial impact of funeral care. It will counter the idea that the amount of money spent on a funeral is a reflection of the amount a person was loved. People want greater choice to reflect values and cultures, transparency and support. They want more information to understand rights, responsibilities and choices at end of life and after death. Tender Funerals will offer personalised services that demystify death and dying, and involve a model of community support, to assist healthy bereavement. This will include unique offerings of information and support, funeral services that celebrate and acknowledge both a personโ€™s death and their life, and support and facilitation of active participation and community support in funeral-care. We will develop and implement a community development model to provide ongoing support and community awareness around death and dying.

TOMORROW! Sunday 21st June, we warmly invite you to join us in a community picnic to remember those we have loved and lost.
In its' seventh year, the picnic is a casual gathering with an inclusive non-denominational ceremony of remembrance.
Sharing a meal is the centrepiece of this celebration and we invite people attending to bring a plate of food that is sacred to them - "sacred food" for a communal table that supports the sharing of stories and memories.
People of all ages are encouraged to attend with special arts and craft activities by Tenders' Sewing Circle and performances by the Tender Community Choir.
The weather is usually cold, so dress warmly, wear comfy shoes and bring a picnic blanket or fold up chair if you need one. ๐Ÿƒ

Bookings are now open for our next information session - Building Community Capacity.

Jenny Briscoe-Hough has a back ground in community development but at heart she is a cultural activist. For Jenny, culture is pretty broad and at its core it simply means "the way we do things around here", and Jenny has worked at grass root communities for decades, getting to know exactly how they work, through that work, she has come to know intimately that the culture in any community is the responsibility of the community to create and then to uphold.

So how do we cement and grow that vital place for community, and what does that have to do with death and dying?

Reclaiming capacity is central to communities reclaiming end of life and after death practice and processes. Community development is about taking things back into our own hands in a very ordinary way, which is about knowing that you are able and building our internal muscles as we go.

In this talk Jenny will share with you her wisdom from decades of helping communities build their capacity and maybe even inspire you to help the communities in which you live.

Jenny Briscoe-Hough is the driving force behind Tender Funerals. She has decades of experience in community development and believes in a strengths-based approach. Jenny has a reputation for innovation and developing projects which support and empower communities to create a culture of help rather than harm. Tender Funerals is the result of a community believing that funerals should be an affordable, meaningful and ultimately as much as possible healing. Tender Funerals Australia was called into being by the many communities that reached out to have a Tender Funerals in their area and Jenny is proud to be a part of the team that is answering their call.

Today we received an incredibly generous and thoughtful donation from Helen, who created a series of hand-crafted shrouds as part of her project Shroud Memento.
Each piece is unique, made with care from natural fabrics, and designed to be something families can add to โ€” with messages, stitching, drawings, or small mementos. Itโ€™s a simple but powerful way to be involved in saying goodbye, and to put love and meaning into the process.
Weโ€™ll be offering these shrouds to families who may wish to use them, particularly for those choosing shrouded cremations. Theyโ€™ll also help show whatโ€™s possible when people want something more personal and hands-on.
Helen, thank you. Your work will make a real difference to the families we support, and it will be received with genuine appreciation.
