🚤 A massive thank you to Fortescue! 🚤

Marine Rescue Port Hedland would like to extend our sincere thanks to Fortescue for their generous $10,000 contribution towards fitting out our newest training vessel, Roam-N.

This funding has enabled us to install up-to-date navigation aids, including chart plotter, VHF radio, upgraded navigation lights and electrical wiring, significantly enhancing the vessel’s capabilities and safety.

These upgrades will play an important role in supporting our volunteers with navigational creek training, towing and rafting exercises, helping ensure our team is well-equipped and prepared to respond when our community needs us most.

We greatly appreciate Fortescue’s ongoing support of Marine Rescue Port Hedland and their commitment to strengthening the training, capability and emergency response readiness of our dedicated volunteers.
🙏🚤

This afternoon, volunteer crews from Marine Rescue Port Hedland responded to a call from a six-meter vessel disabled at the inner anchorage. Iron Pride was tasked and towed the vessel safely back to Spoilbank Marina. All persons on board returned without incident. Safety reminder: check your lifejackets, carry a working VHF radio, EPIRB, and keep up with routine maintenance. A little prep goes a long way.

What a day! Marine Rescue Port Hedland was proud to be part of the BHP Family Day today, with Iron Pride on display and our volunteers having a fantastic time showcasing what we do and connecting with the community. It was a great day, with volunteers and their families getting to tour BHP’s impressive operations, including locomotives, helicopters, fire trucks, mining equipment, and trains. Then, just before midday, duty called. Following reports of two distress rocket flares near Channel Marker 27, Iron Pride was immediately deployed, located the recreational vessel in distress, and towed it safely back to Spoil Bank Marina. Once the rescue was complete, the crew returned to the BHP Family Day to continue engaging with the community. Massive thanks to all of our dedicated volunteers who once again demonstrated what Marine Rescue is all about: supporting our community, whether it’s educating the public at community events, or responding when someone needs help on the water. One day, two very different missions, one committed team. Always ready.

🌙🚤 Night Search & Rescue Training

This week, Marine Rescue Port Hedland crews took to the water after dark for night search and rescue training.

Cape Thouin, Iron Pride and Roam N were deployed off the Spoilbank, working coordinated grid search patterns and practising the skills required to locate a person or vessel at sea in low visibility.

Regular training keeps our crews ready when the real call comes. 🔦🌊

The training went well… although we’re still one leg short of calling it a complete success. 🦵😂
