Meet The Maker Monday - Meg Finnegan
Meg Finnegan is a Port Fairy sculptor who works with ceramics, copper, and limestone to create works from the very large to the intricate. From the Warrnambool Standard “Bendigo-born artist Meg Finnegan says her love of Port Fairy has always been the driving force behind establishing a home, gallery, art studio, garden, weddings and function space on the Princes Highway. Together with husband Gavin, the creative pair hope the upcoming expansion of Limestone Gallery will continue to impress tourists and locals alike. What is the best thing about Port Fairy? The
wonderful community spirit, ocean and lots of artists living here who all work together to make it an arts destination. Who is your favourite artist and why? Grayson Perry, a British ceramicist who creates pots that tell a story of the emotional life and struggles of people, which he illustrates in both design and decoration.
Where do you see yourself in 20 years? Moyneyana House or next door in the cemetery. What goals/dreams do you have for Limestone Gallery? I hope Limestone can continue to develop as a peaceful sculptural retreat and be a hub for the arts within all parts of the community. Where did the name Limestone originate from? The name Limestone came from making sculptures out of limestone and the limestone around Port Fairy. How long have you been an artist? I have always loved making things, even as a child. My brother has also been a potter and my great grandfather was a pre-Raphaelite painter.”
Meg also runs the very popular Ceramic workshops in Glyph's very own Creative Space. See our upcoming workshops on the website: https://www.swmakers.com.au/
