If you’re flying a drone near a bushfire, that means our aircraft can’t.

Our crews often need to fly lower than the usual, which means they may be grounded if drones are operating in the area.

We know fires can look impressive from above, but please keep the skies clear so our aerial firefighting units can do what they do best.

On Tuesday night (18/08) Gympie South RFB was fortunate to host the Chief Officer, Rural Fire Service Queensland, Kaylene Jones for her RFSQ Volunteer Online Forum. We welcomed many Support staff, dignitaries and members of other brigades to our station and it was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our fire station, appliances and vision and goals for the future.
Among the people interviewed by the Chief Officer, was our 2nd Officer Craig Groves and Secretary/Treasurer B’Jae Jansen. They both did a great job of speaking of their own experiences and the journey they have taken to arrive at being part of Gympie South RFB. It was the perfect opportunity to highlight the positive aspects of our brigade and the amazing members that make our brigade what it is.
Chief Officer Kaylene Jones presented B’Jae with a Certificate of Appreciation for his commitment to RFSQ, Gympie South RFB and the local community. It was great to celebrate this achievement for B’Jae 👏
Our thanks to the Chief Officer for taking the time to visit our fire station and for speaking to all members present. Ironically, it rained the entire time she was here which was very welcomed and needed, but regardless of that we wish all Rural Fire Brigades across Queensland a safe and responsive fire season ahead.

When using tools and machinery it’s important to remember…

🔥All it takes is one small spark for a fire to ignite dry grass and quickly become out of control.

If you’re using any kind of machinery to maintain your property, please make sure to have extra water on hand so you can quickly extinguish any fires.

If possible, pause any work during High Fire Danger Rating (FDR). Monitor the FDR for your area here: fire.qld.gov.au/prepare/bushfire/fire-danger-ratings

🔥That’s a wrap for RFSQ Week 2026 🎉

A big thank you to our Area Office staff who support our brigade and members, offer advice, resources, training and guidance. Your assistance is always appreciated.
A final thank you once again to all brigade members in our local area and throughout Queensland.
The difference your time and dedication makes is truly something you all should be proud of. May you all stay safe over this coming fire season, look out for your mates and return home safely to your families after every call out.

Rural Fire Brigades are required to respond and assist in a variety of situations. Some of the reasons include:-

Fire Danger Ratings⚪️🟢🟡🟠🔴
These ratings tell you how dangerous a fire would be if one occurred in your area today.
Ratings are calculated using a combination of weather forecasts and information about vegetation that could fuel a fire.
The Australian Fire Danger Ratings System is nationally consistent, so wherever you go in our country you will understand the level of threat and know what to do to keep safe.

Training Days 🚒

Training days are vital for enhancing skills and knowledge. At Gympie South RFB we meet at least once a month to practise dynamic techniques and situations. This allows members to hone their skills, ask questions, and discover new learnings. It encourages confidence and autonomy in our members abilities with appliance operations, capabilities and safe practices. We offer day and night training scenarios for operational and situational awareness in differing environments. We take great pride in our station and three appliances, so time is also spent maintaining our vehicles and keeping everything s***k and span and in tip top condition.
Our Training Officer works hard to present a variety of activities and scenarios to ensure that these days are useful, fun, engaging and practical.
