Play With Your Kids

Play With Your Kids The aim of our program is to enhance relationships between parents and children so that it can be an enjoyable experience for both parent and child.

Play With Your Kids is a program managed by the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre and funded by the Department of Education, Training and Employment. Qualified staff work together to provide you and your children with opportunities to learn through play in a safe and supportive environment. Our playgroups offer parents of children 0 to 5 years an environment where they can network with other parents, share ideas and experiences about parenting.

🦁 A Wild Morning of Adventure at Train Park!

Our multicultural PWYK families enjoyed a morning of imagination, nature and connection at Train Park.

We were excited to welcome a new multicultural family to PWYK who speak French at home. The children and families enjoyed learning a little more about France and sharing in each other’s cultures. πŸ‡«πŸ‡·

There was plenty of outdoor fun with sand and water play, shell collecting, tree climbing and an ocean scavenger hunt. Our little explorers discovered shells, crab and coral along the way. 🌊🐚

We also enjoyed Disney story time under the trees, exploring interactive books with textures, buttons and sounds, followed by a game of Hide and Seek – Where is Stitch? The Stitch ball was also a big hit as the children kicked, chased and practised their gross motor skills.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES

β€’ Cultural awareness
β€’ Social connection
β€’ Gross motor development
β€’ Early literacy

GOOD NEWS STORY πŸ’™

Our little explorers practised their counting during our ocean play. We counted 1, 2, 3, 4 shells before placing them back into the water and watching them make a splash!

Another lovely morning of playing, learning and connecting together in the great outdoors. 🌿

Yesterday at Music and Movement, we celebrated Indigenous Literacy Day with the 2026 theme, β€œCountry Is Our Teacher” β€” celebrating First Nations stories, languages and the importance of literacy for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

We explored the beautiful book Gambay Butchulla Yaa – Together Butchulla Talk, learning a few words from the Butchulla language along the way:

🐬 Buthu – dolphin
πŸ¦€ Nalwar – crab
πŸ‹ Kondari – whale

There was plenty of creativity too! Our little artists made love-heart prints and decorated special wooden bears to create thoughtful gifts for their loved ones. ❀️

πŸ› οΈ GOOD NEWS STORY

Outside, our little helpers had a very busy day! The babies needed a bath, the playground needed some maintenance, and the tool bench was ready for action. πŸ˜‚

After all that hard work, Mrs Robyn suggested the team come over and mow her lawn next... we might have created some very enthusiastic little tradies!

Another fun-filled morning of learning, creating and connecting through play. πŸ’š

We had a lovely day at PWYK Harmony Hub yesterday celebrating the special people in our lives with our Loved Ones activities.

πŸ’Œ A Special Treat for Someone Special

At the craft table, the children created beautiful love heart cards using paper hearts, envelopes and stickers. They added a special treat inside the envelope to surprise someone they love.

The hardest part? Making sure we didn’t eat the treat before we got home! πŸ˜‚

Not all superheroes wear capes. Some teach us, support us, hold our hands through the tough moments and wipe our tears. Every day is a day to celebrate our loved ones.

πŸ•·οΈ Superhero Creations

Our little artists created their own Spider-Man artwork using recycled wrapping paper, paper plates and red paint. They glued Spider-Man into the centre and painted their very own spider webs around him. How cool!

πŸ¦„ Masks, Imagination & Creativity

The collage table was filled with Spider-Man, unicorn and pirate masks, ready to be decorated with lots of colourful loose parts.

Noah even created his own bird and bird’s nest! The feather container was definitely a favourite, with plenty of sensory exploration and fun along the way. πŸ˜‚

🌈 Good News Story

We finished the day with some parachute games, but after all that activity, everyone was feeling a little tired!

So the adults transformed the parachute into a magic carpet and took the children for a ride around the room. What a fun way to finish the day!

At PWYK, we love creating opportunities for children to learn, play, explore and connect in a safe and supportive environment.

It was a fun morning at Ernie Organ - Train Park with FCFK’s Beach Kindy! Our little explorers enjoyed getting stuck into sand, nature and plenty of imaginative play.

πŸš‚ All aboard! The red train and railway track were a big hit as the children climbed aboard and set off on their adventures.

There was also plenty of play dough, Lego construction, sandcastle building and collecting shells and natural treasures. The children enjoyed digging, filling and transferring natural items from bucket to bucket.

🌊 Our ocean adventure was a favourite, with little feet splashing in the water while children explored leaves, shells and rocks. They buried their treasures in the sand and then searched to find them again.

Stacking and balancing natural materials also gave everyone a chance to practise hand-eye coordination, memory and problem-solving skills β€” all through play!

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES

β€’ Social development
β€’ Gross and fine motor skills
β€’ Coordination and problem-solving

Another wonderful morning of learning, exploring and making connections together! πŸ’š

πŸ“š PWYK Playgroup Wrap-Up | A Day Out in Our Community

Today our PWYK families came together for playgroup before heading out for a special community outing β€” the opening of the new library! πŸŽ‰

It was wonderful to walk over together, explore the new space and celebrate this exciting addition to our local community.

Days like this are about more than just play. They give families the chance to connect with each other, meet new people and become part of the wider community. πŸ’›

Building connections within our community helps create friendships, share resources and develop a stronger sense of belonging.

We loved being able to celebrate this special day together!

What a fun-filled Book Week session we had with Music and Movement and TAFE Queensland! 🎢

The children explored some much-loved stories through creative activities, sensory play, music and plenty of imagination.

🐷 The Three Little Pigs
We built houses for the three little pigs using sticks, bricks, straw, play dough and clay.

πŸ‘Ή Never Touch a Monster
The children used forks to sweep paint across the page before adding monster eyes to create their very own creatures.

πŸ”€ ABC
We made colourful fingerprint creations using paint and black paper, adding ears and whiskers with cotton buds. Although, before long, we decided using our hands was much more fun! πŸ˜‚

πŸ¦– 10 Little Dinosaurs
The children built dinosaur houses with paddle pop sticks before counting to 10 as they stamped their dinosaurs.

🌈 Book Week Sensory Fun

Our sensory trays were a huge hit, with adventures including a turtle flood, rainbow birds, monster trucks and diggers, creepy crawlers and colourful ice and orange concoctions.

The sensory play then transformed into a potion-making station, with dried flowers, funnels and test tubes added to create some very imaginative potions! πŸ§ͺ

πŸ’› Good News Story

Today we had TAFE students, staff, parent Sophie and Robyn put on a special production of Wombat Stew.

With everyone dressed in costume, we re-enacted the story β€” complete with plenty of laughter, a few forgotten lines and some costume malfunctions! πŸ˜‚ Despite it all, the performers received a wonderful round of applause from our little audience.

A huge thank you to Sue and the TAFE students for another fun-filled and action-packed PWYK session!
