During our Beemurra Camp, our young people had the opportunity to create and decorate their very own artwork.

The painting will be left in the kitchen shed at Beemurra for future students and young people to see, leaving a little piece of our camp behind for those who come after us.

Thank you Beemurra Aboriginal Corporation for providing our young people with such a special space to create, learn and connect.

What an incredible few days with Beemurra Aboriginal Corporation at Yallalie Downs farm in Dandaragan. Our young people enjoyed hands-on experiences with cattle moving, fencing, soil testing, cooking, collecting firewood, creating message sticks, and plenty more 🐄

From sharing meals around the fire to experiencing proper bush camping, there were plenty of opportunities to learn new skills, connect with each other and enjoy the farm.

Our young people thoroughly enjoyed their time at Beemurra, embracing the opportunity to experience bush camping, learn new skills, and connect with the Beemurra staff and each other.

A big thank you to the Beemurra team for welcoming us, sharing their knowledge, and making the experience so memorable 🫶🏾

We want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank Hope Community Services for the incredible contribution they have made to Old Ways New Ways over the past two years.

As of today, Hope Community Services is no longer a member of the OWNW Consortium, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the program.

Hope’s decision reflects its commitment to Aboriginal self-determination and its recognition that “the most effective outcomes for Aboriginal people are achieved when services are designed, led and delivered by Aboriginal people.”

Hope described the transition as “a wonderful demonstration of the program’s success and maturity”, and we couldn’t agree more.

We are incredibly grateful for everything Hope has contributed to the establishment and development of OWNW during its first two years. While they are no longer part of the Consortium, we’re pleased that Hope will continue to support OWNW as a collaboration partner.
We look forward to this next chapter and continuing to grow a program that is Aboriginal-led, community-focused and grounded in self-determination.

What a wonderful time at our Armadale Girls Camp Camp Leschenaultia 💗

We thank Elder Dawn Ugle for her inspiring Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony.

Our young women enjoyed a fun-filled camp with canoeing and kayaking, art, On-Country walks, having meaningful conversations around the fire, cooking, a movie and pamper night, and plenty of laughs along the way.

It was a beautiful opportunity to build friendships, try new things, grow in confidence, and create special memories together.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the camp such a positive and memorable experience for our young people.

What a great time at our Armadale Boys Camp at Camp Leschenaultia 🛶

The camp began with a beautiful Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by Elder Dawn Ugle.

Our young men then enjoyed an action-packed camp filled with canoeing and kayaking, on-Country walks, cooking damper and kangaroo tails, yarning around the fire pit, playing footy, and writing their own rap songs led by a young Aboriginal rap artist.

It was a fantastic opportunity to spend time outdoors, try new activities, build confidence, strengthen connections, and create great memories together.

All the young people were incredibly engaged throughout the camp and had a fantastic time.

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the camp such a positive and memorable experience for our young people.

What a special night celebrating our young people, culture, community and achievements at the 2026 NAIDOC Youth Ball at Optus Stadium.

We were incredibly proud to support 20 of our young people to attend, helping with dresses, suits, accessories, hair, makeup, transport and, most importantly, plenty of encouragement along the way.

Seeing them looking amazing, feeling confident and enjoying themselves was pretty special. Nights like this are about creating opportunities for young people to feel valued, connected, and celebrated.

A huge thank you to our incredible OWNW team and everyone who helped make the night possible. Your support, care, and dedication helped create such a memorable experience for our young people.

A beautiful night of culture, connection, confidence, belonging, and celebrating the strength and potential of our young people.

We are proud to introduce our other Cultural Lead, Bruce Loo. Bruce is a Noongar man and Elder, with connections to Goreng, Wilman, Balladong, and Yuat, just to name a few. Bruce grew up in a town in the Great Southern, Katanning, about 3 hours South of Perth

Why do you like working at Old Ways New Ways?
“The reason I like working with the Old Ways New Ways is that it gives the young people that we work with a view of the world in a different way, we have the ability to guide and connect young people to country, family and importantly culture.”

“I like to hear the sound of young people laughing and watch their faces as they are listening to Noongar stories of the dream time around the campfire.”

“As an Elder it is my honour and privilege to be part of this program.”

What's your favourite thing to do when you're not working?
“I like to relax with my family, try to go fishing back on country, and I also like to travel.”

Our Activity Days are all about creating safe, supportive and culturally grounded spaces for young people to connect, yarn, learn and grow.

Through sport, culture, creative activities, group discussions and time out in community, our young people build confidence, resilience, leadership and strong connections.

We’re proud to see our Activity Days continue to create opportunities for young Aboriginal people to feel connected, supported and proud of who they are.

We would like to thank the Western Australian Government for their recent funding and support of Old Ways New Ways.

This funding will enable OWNW to employ four new full-time staff and allow approximately 25 current participants to receive culturally secure case management support.

In addition, it will significantly increase our capacity to employ our casual mentors to enable the team to engage with clients more frequently and more intensively, enhancing overall impact for each young person.
