Our new playground is taking shape, and we are loving watching the progress each day! There is always something new to see — from digging huge holes and laying kerbing to placing the giant rocks. Our students are enjoying watching the construction unfold and seeing their new playground slowly come to life! The project is still on track for completion by the end of the term, and we can’t wait to see the finished result!

a wonderful Book Week! Our students enjoyed lots of activities celebrating books, creativity and the joy of reading.

Highlights included the Something Special musical incursion, linked to this year’s Symphony of Stories theme, and visits from authors Meg McKinlay and Sally Murphy, who shared their stories, ideas and insights into being an author.

A fantastic week celebrating stories, imagination and reading across CPS!

What a wonderful celebration and Symphony of Stories we had for our Book Week Assembly and Parade! It was fantastic to see our school come alive with characters, costumes and, most importantly, a shared love of books and reading.

A very special thank you to our guest storytellers, Mr David Mitchell (CPS Board Chair), Erin Mitchell (WAIS), Mr Geoff Baker MLA (local member), Mrs Judith Ortmann (P&C President) and Mrs Sarah Baden-Powell (Principal), who did a wonderful job of enthralling our students, families and staff with their readings. We are very grateful that they gave their time to be part of this special event.

Thank you also to our staff for getting into the Book Week spirit and dressing up, and to our students and families for the creativity and effort that went into so many fantastic costumes.

Reading is such an important part of learning, opening doors to imagination, knowledge, creativity and new worlds. Thank you to our wonderful school community for coming along and supporting this much-loved annual Curtin Primary School event.

Last week, our students celebrated Indonesian Independence Day as part of our Indonesian LOTE program. Students joined in the celebrations by decorating in Indonesia’s national colours, creating posters and taking part in a range of traditional Indonesian games. It was a fun and engaging way to bring language learning to life while developing students’ understanding and appreciation of Indonesian culture and traditions.

What a fantastic assembly by our Year 2/3 class and Mrs Di Camillo!

Students shared the important message of *Reduce, Reuse, Recycle* through confident speaking, fun performances, and plenty of great tips for caring for our environment.

The audience loved joining in with the songs and actions, and everyone left inspired to make a positive difference.

Well done, Year 2/3!

Our Kindergarten to Year 6 students recently welcomed Bec and Naomi from Perth Zoo back for the second session of the Habitats for Wildlife program, linked to our 2026 Connected Curriculum focus, Our Place.

Building on their learning from the first incursion, students continued researching, designing and planning habitats for native animals that could be created within our school grounds. Working with species including bobtail lizards, cockatoos, butterflies and other local wildlife, students investigated the best locations, materials and features needed to support healthy habitats.

It has been wonderful to see students developing their understanding of how we can care for our local environment and create spaces where native flora and fauna can thrive. We look forward to sharing the next stage of this exciting project!

Our Year 1/2 class enjoyed a special yarning circle experience in The Hollow, sharing a warm Milo around the pretend campfire while learning about the importance of yarning circles in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Students shared stories about their own family traditions and celebrations and were fortunate to hear Chappy share stories of his Koori heritage and teach a song. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn, connect and celebrate culture together.
