Today, on International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, we celebrate the enduring strength, knowledge and cultural richness of Aboriginal peoples across Western Australia.
Observed every year on 9 August, this day is a global opportunity to celebrate the cultures, knowledge and contributions of Indigenous peoples, while recognising the importance of protecting their rights and voices.
As home to the world’s oldest continuous living cultures, our State has been shaped by tens of thousands of years of Aboriginal wisdom, connection and stewardship. They have cared for Country since time immemorial, nurturing the lands, waters and seas that sustain us all.
We acknowledge and celebrate the significant and continuing contributions of Aboriginal communities, whose knowledge, leadership and cultural practices continue to enrich our society.
