👋 Get to Know Our Team – Meet Paul

Hi, I’m Paul, Clinical Lead at headspace Manjimup 👋
I’m really excited to be working in Manjimup and to have the opportunity to deliver a quality service for community members who need it. I’m particularly passionate about providing strong mental health support in regional and rural areas.

This is my first time living and working in the Warren Blackwood region, and I’ve recently moved to Manjimup. What drew me to headspace was the chance to help establish a new mental health service in a rural community, delivered by a well-known organisation that supports communities across Australia.

In my role, I’m most looking forward to delivering quality clinical services and seeing headspace Manjimup develop and grow over the years ahead. Mental health is a complex and challenging practice area, and seeing young people reach their goals and become the best version of themselves is what motivates me to keep doing this work.

Day to day, I’m driven by supporting young people who have experienced complex trauma. No one should have to carry those experiences on their own. Building strong relationships, helping people feel comfortable to engage, and providing safe, supportive service delivery are really important to the way I practice.

Outside of work, I’m hoping to connect with the local community by getting involved in community groups, particularly sporting and service groups. When I’m not at work, you’ll usually find me spending time with my two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

A few quick extras: 🧠 Wellbeing must-have: keeping a healthy work/life balance
💙 What I bring to the team: experience
😂 What makes me laugh: good company
🎵 Current go-to song: “All Around Cowboy” – Marty Robbins
🦅 Fun fact: lifelong West Coast Eagles supporter (even during a rebuild!)

I’m really looking forward to being part of the Manjimup community and working alongside the team as headspace Manjimup grows.

Last week we were proud to support BYA at the annual YARN event at Manjimup Senior High School!

Year 9 students from across the region came together to take part in interactive group workshops, exploring this year’s important theme of Positive Body Image. It was fantastic to connect with so many young people, hear their perspectives and be part of such meaningful conversations.

Our Community Engagement Officer, Andrew, alongside BYA, delivered a great presentation linking football and sport with mental health and positive body image. A meaningful way to connect with young people and get the conversation started.

While we were there, we also gathered valuable feedback from students on the look and feel of our new centre, from front window designs to furniture choices and colours. Their ideas are helping us create a space that truly reflects what young people want and need in Manjimup!

A big thank you to our partners, BYA and everyone else involved, for bringing together such a fun and inspiring day!

👋 Get to know me!
I’m so excited to be working in Manji because it gives me the chance to really get to know the young people down here and do some great things together. I’ve lived in the area for about two years now, and I’ve been working in Manjimup since making the move from Meekatharra.

I chose to work at headspace because the role aligns so strongly with what I’m passionate about. For me, it’s all about supporting young people and being part of something meaningful. I’m really keen to connect with the community by listening and learning — I want to hear what young people and the community need and what they’d like to see from me in this role. Since this is a brand new role in the region, I’m looking forward to learning, growing, and shaping it as I go.
What motivates me most is seeing young people achieve their goals and do better for themselves. I hope to bring a positive, flexible approach to the team and support everyone as much as I can.

Outside of work, my must-have for wellbeing is spending time with family and friends. 😅 A good joke will always make me laugh, and if I’m not at work you’ll probably find me out on the golf course. I listen to all kinds of music, and my go-to podcast at the moment is The Swing of It 🎧⛳

An exciting update on the construction process at Manjimup headspace. The builders are making great progress with the framing for the walls going up quickly. Keep an eye on the socials to follow along the journey as we progress. We are one step closer to having an open centre for young people. .manjimup

Recognition we are celebrating🌟 Dr Sarah Youngson! 🌟
Community Health Professional of the Year at the WA Rural Health Excellence Awards 2026!

Sarah has been a powerful advocate in the fight for the headspace Manjimup service—championing the mental health and wellbeing of young people in our region.

She’s part of the consortium and has also graciously accepted the role of Chairperson, continuing her strong leadership and advocacy for young people across the region. Sarah will also be one of the GPs at our centre when we open this year.

Please join us in congratulating Sarah and thanking her for everything she brings to rural health. 👏 💚

A South West doctor says she's deeply humbled after her work was recognised at this year's Rural Health Excellence Awards.

Bridgetown GP Sarah Youngson was named Community Health Professional of the Year, recognised for her work in youth mental health and her advocacy for better support and services throughout the community.

Over more than a decade, she has worked to secure funding for GP support in local schools, chaired the local su***de prevention network and played a leading role in a collaboration to boost paediatric services and reduce waiting times in the community.

"I'm very humbled by this, I certainly don't deserve this all on my own," Dr Youngson told Stan Shaw on ABC South West Breakfast.

"It's thanks to my incredible colleagues, collaborators and ultimately the community that has put their trust in the projects and crazy plans we have come up with and tried to do."
