Transport Workers Union WA Branch - TWU WA The Transport Workers’ Union has been the collective voice for the men and women working in the Au

Every day we work to improve the lives of Transport Workers and their families. The Transport Workers’ Union has been the collective voice for the men and women working in the Australian transport industry for more than 120 years. From humble beginnings at the turn of the last century, the TWU has grown to represent tens of thousands of employees and owner-operators in every State and Territory of

Australia. Our members work across a wide range of industries including aviation, mining, oil and gas, road transportation and freight logistics, public transport and waste management. Our role as a union has always been to secure the best pay, conditions, safety standards and job security for each and every one of our members. Nationally we work together to organise our workplaces and create a safer industry, with workers who are treated with respect and dignity. A top priority is always and improving member’s pay and conditions. Our goal is to make sure that transport workers in Australia get a fair go, with equal entitlements and safe working conditions for the men and women who are the back bone of the Australian economy. The WA Branch of the TWU is fiercely membership driven and we provide a fantastic range of services and benefits that is second to none. Congratulations to on 20 years with the TWU!

Starting in 2006 at just 20, Rebecca began her union journey while Jim McGiveron
was TWU state secretary, and has since been vital in making sure daily operations in the union run smoothly.

She's always been there as a friendly face to discuss issues with members, support our organisers, and above all, bring her warm, bubbly, passionate demeanour into everything she does.

On behalf of WA State Secretary Tim Dawson and the TWU, we thank you for your unwavering service to ensuring our members are listened to and advocated for by someone who truly cares everyday.

Here's to you Bec!

Cleanaway has been hit with the largest workplace health and safety fine ever imposed under Commonwealth WHS laws in South Australia, following a 2014 crash that killed two transport workers.

The court found workers were allowed to undertake high-risk tasks without adequate training, with devastating consequences.

The company was fined for two Category-2 breaches of the commonwealth jurisdiction's work Health and Safety Act 2011.

For years, the TWU has been calling out Cleanaway's poor safety record and demanding accountability. In the last two years alone, five workers have lost their lives while working for the company.

Transport workers deserve to come home safely at the end of every shift. It's time for Cleanaway to lift its game, put safety before profits, and stop putting workers and the public at risk.

Cleanaway may be paying a record fine today, but the real cost has been paid by workers and their families. Enough is enough. Do better, Cleanaway.

The Transport Workers' Union has lost one of its great characters, leaders and storytellers with the passing of former Assistant Secretary and Communications Manager, Paul Aslan.

For more than 40 years, Paul dedicated his working life to the trade union movement, serving workers across three unions and spending 22 of those years with the TWU. His contribution to working people cannot be measured simply by positions held or years served. Paul helped shape the culture, character and voice of the union movement in Western Australia.

Paul was many things: journalist, strategist, mentor, advocate and leader. But above all, he was a unionist.

As Communications Manager, Paul became the voice of the TWU. He understood the power of words and the importance of telling workers' stories. He could distil complex industrial issues into language that connected with ordinary people and never lost sight of who the union was there to serve.

Working alongside former State Secretary Jim McGiveron, Paul brought his trademark wit to every day. Each morning he would greet Jim with the question, "Who are we going to hold accountable today, Jim?" It was classic Paul: irreverent, sharp and guaranteed to get a laugh. Yet behind the humour was a fierce commitment to fighting injustice and standing up for workers.

Paul's commitment to members was legendary. He believed workers deserved to be heard and treated seriously, no matter how unusual the circumstances.

Rest in peace Paul.

Last week, TWU officials and delegates from across the nation met in Canberra to discuss the 2026 campaign and how delegates and organisers on the ground are taking steps to build strength across yards and educate members on the power of fighting together for a better agreement.

With just 10 weeks left until the Enterprise Agreements of some of Australia's largest transport companies expire, the Transport Workers union is building power through delegates, members and organisers to call giant clients to the negotiation table.

We want these companies to sign national agreements that will set standards for transport workers across the board, deliver fairer wages to support the cost of living, and stop the race to the bottom through unregulatory and unsafe practices endangering workers and the public every single day.

If you work in transport and you're not a member, join the fight now for a better future in transport, no matter where you work in the industry. https://www.twuwa.org.au/join-now

Sham contracting crackdowns are gathering momentum according to a Big Rigs article detailing there have been more than 140 tip-offs from within the transport industry since regulators began targeting the illegal practice.

Ex truck driver and WA Labor said the ultimate goal was not simply to target drivers, but to hold parties throughout the supply chain accountable through stronger use of chain of responsibility laws.

During International Road Safety Week, we remember the lives lost to road trauma and reflect on the importance of road safety laws, following speed limits and avoiding distractions.

The TWU is proud to donate more than $1000 to road safety charity , raised through our May Day BBQ fundraiser earlier this month.

Every day, road trauma has devastating and lasting impacts on workers, families and communities. Behind every statistic is a life forever changed.

Injury Matters delivers a range of programs supporting injury prevention and recovery across Western Australia, including Road Trauma Support WA, the Stay On Your Feet program for older adults, and the MaPS program which focusses on mental and physical health and wellbeing for people working in road transport.

Thank you to Injury Matters for the vital work you do across the transport industry and wider community.
