A couple of recent photos - 1 from the general class on Tuesday during a walk through with two 3 couple sets and 1 from the advanced class. I cannot remember which dance was being walked through. The other, which is being danced, is Humours of California and was written by John Wilkinson and dedicated to Marian Anderson and Max Ketchin on the occasion of their wedding. Marion Anderson's band has played for the WA Branch on a number of occasions. Photo was taken while dancing the “Reel/Jig Poussette like figure”.

There have been no reports for the last couple of months as I have been travelling.

Over the last 2 weeks, Tuesday classes have been small, though as usual, a lot of fun. The advanced class on Friday managed 12 dancers. A number of dances from the new book “The Diak Dances” have been danced on each of the evenings. This collection of dances is dedicated to the memory of J. Michael Diack (1869–1946), who was instrumental in the founding of the [R]SCDS in 1923. The establishment of the Scottish Country Dance Society was thanks to three key individuals: Mrs Ysobel Stewart of Fasnacloich, Mr Michael Diack of the Glasgow publishers Patersons, and Miss Jean Milligan, a lecturer in Physical Education at Jordanhill College in Glasgow. Diack arranged for the two women to meet and from that meeting they decided to proceed with the publication of a book of twelve dances, as well as forming a Society to support the publication. 28 years after the formation of the society, King George VI bestowed the title of "Royal" on the Society in 1951 as a mark of its excellent service to social life in Scotland. (End of history lesson 😊 .)

With 12 dancers on Friday, it was a good opportunity to do Never at Sea and Fire in the Rye both of which are 6 couple dances. There was certainly a sense of achievement after completing these.

A few weeks ago, the Tuesday class managed 18 dancers including Gale's daughter Raelwyn who was visiting from London. I gathered she is not dancing often but picked fitted min like a pro. The benefit of youth. It was great to have her join us.
Last week on Friday, 12 dancers took to the floor. We seemed a little challenged by the Fairbridge Reel which was written by John Brenchley and originally published in The Swan River Collection (1992). We also did Polharrow Burn in 3 couple set. It made me realise that a number of 5 couple dances could work with only 3 couples.

Another great evening of dancing last night at Melville with 14 dancers so some dances danced as a 7 couple sets. Dances included
- Da Rain Dancin' which includes the formation interrupted set to corners and partner, and
- The Prince of Sutton Coldfield with the formation Hello-Goodbye Poussette
Both formations were new to me, and it was great to have the challenge.
We also danced a new dance A Balloon Flight Over Northam devised by Donna.

Last Tuesday (20th Feb) we welcomed 12 dancers to the class in Melville. Audrey was teaching. With 12 dancers and being a hot night sets were often of 3 couples which danced alternately. Joining us for the evening from Darwin was Majston Wright who coached us through one of his own dances "Arafura Reel". Great to have you.

Sad news from Scotland - many of you will remember Bill when he was one of our musicians at Albany Winter School in 2013. A great loss to his family and Scottish Music.

Some Irish set dancing for a little something different this afternoon, lots of smiles around the room. Thanks Gaye!
