These past three days, The Dementia Foundation has had the great privilege and honour of attending the 2026 Australian Dementia Research Forum hosted by the Australian Dementia Network in Sydney.

We attended great and informative panels, met with researchers, policy makers and other industry professionals and got a deep look into exciting discoveries and developments that will soon inform how we view and care for those with a dementia diagnosis. The session held by Professor Blossom Stephan was particularly eye opening!

Huge thanks to Alzheimer's Research Australia and Vicky Vass for extending an invitation to us and providing the opportunity to participate in these extremely important national discussions.

For our part, we took away a lot of information that will help us as we provide advocacy and direct supports for those with a Young Onset Dementia diagnosis. What we learn today will form the basis of how we implement high quality person centred care programs going forward.

It was fantastic to meet with Dr Elissa Burton and Dr Emily Corti from Curtin University. We were honoured to spend some time with them to share our plans and receive some of their expert advice and hear of their research projects.

Elissa is an Associate Professor of Healthy Ageing at Curtin University’s School of Allied Health and her work which is funded by a Western Australian Future Health Research and Innovation Fund Fellowship is aimed at helping people living with young onset dementia in Western Australia and their families to live their best life.

Emily is a Lecturer in Psychology at Curtin University’s School of Population Health. Her work, supported by Parkinson’s Western Australia and the Curtin enAble Institute, is aimed at understanding and supporting the cognitive and psychological health of people living with neurodegenerative conditions and their families.

We are incredibly excited to continue discussions and find ways to work together to continue to improve our communities. Everyone of us has such an important part to play and we can't wait to discover more together.

Yesterday, we had the privilege to speak with the mother of one of our clients and get insight into her experiences and what looks for when receiving support.

Denise spoke about the journey she went through to get supports for her daughter Michelle. There were many challenges, but she remains hopeful. She shared her hopes for the future and about what could be possible in this country to help families confronted by a Young Onset Dementia diagnosis.

Full video will be up soon. If you're interested in Denise's lived experience, stay tuned!

Last Saturday, The Dementia Foundation and the Morley Windmills Soccer Club took to Wotton Reserve for our Dementia Awareness Round. Three soccer games, a day full of sunshine and engagement from the community: the ingredients for a fantastic day!

⚽️ We won 2 out of three games on the day! Fantastic performance by the Morley Windmills team.

⭐️We raised hundreds of dollars in charity funding for our participants with Young Onset Dementia. Every dollar will help them get supports and get them active in the community.

🎯Batteries generously donated by Master Instruments were included in a Grand Raffle Prize. We will be in contact with the winner to ensure they receive their prize ☺️

All in all, a fantastic day in the community. Events like this show what we can do when we work together as a community.

See you at the next game!

It was wonderful to attend the 2026 Post Budget Breakfast hosted by the Australian Institute of Management WA. The room was full of energy, thoughtful discussion and a genuine commitment to understanding how the latest budget will shape life here in Western Australia. Events like this help us stay closely connected to the issues that matter most to our participants and their families, ensuring we can continue providing the strongest possible supports whenever they’re needed.

We also loved reconnecting with our friends and partners Blake Srdarev from Paywise as well as Lachlan Perhavec and Stephanie Virgo from GR8 Disability Housing. Conversations like these remind us how important collaboration is across our sector. By sharing insights and working together, we can better respond to community needs and continue strengthening the supports available to Western Australians.
